🌡️ Extreme Heat and the Future of Our Cities 🌆 As Denver faces increasing challenges from extreme heat, this recent article by Colorado Public Radio highlights the urgency of addressing climate-related issues in urban environments. Extreme heat is not just a weather issue—it's a public health crisis, an infrastructure challenge, and a call to action for smarter urban planning. The concept of smart cities is more relevant than ever. By leveraging technology and data, we can design urban environments that are not only more resilient to heatwaves but also more livable and sustainable for all residents. From implementing green roofs and expanding tree canopies to using real-time data for efficient energy management, the potential for innovation is vast. Cities like Denver can lead the way by integrating smart solutions that address both immediate and long-term climate challenges. Let's continue the conversation on how we can make our cities smarter, greener, and more resilient in the face of our changing climate. 🌳🌍 Read the article: https://lnkd.in/gMGnYG8t #SmartCities #UrbanPlanning #ClimateAction #Sustainability #Denver

MetroLab Network is a collaborative of cities, counties and universities driving positive impact in communities by putting science and research into city halls. Their annual summit , which is taking place October 1st-2nd in Washington, DC, brings together 150+ local government leaders, innovators, and academic researchers from across the civic ecosystem that aim to intentionally bring two vital public institutions together in partnership: our local governments and universities. On the heels of generational investment from the federal government, innovation and economic growth is a priority in regions across the country. As this moves forward, communities are also grappling with complex problems that require capacity, research, and partnership. This year, the summit will focus on “An R&D Agenda in Service of Cities” – or how local governments consider research as an asset, and how this can move forward step by step with the university community during this time of innovation and economic investment. Don’t miss the chance to connect with peers, share insights, and contribute to the future of civic innovation.
