Colorado Gives Foundation

More than 40% of U.S. households struggle to afford essential needs, forcing them to make difficult decisions every day. To deepen our understanding of the lived realities and the human impact of poverty in our community, Colorado Gives Foundation's staff and board participated in The Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE) with ThinkTank. As we work to help everyone in Jeffco thrive, this simulation challenged us to put ourselves in someone else's shoes, understand the adversity that comes with poverty and how to respond effectively to create positive change. In September, we awarded over $5.7 million to nonprofits working in Jefferson County (Jeffco) to help our community thrive, marking the largest grant award we have ever made. Initially, we budgeted approximately $4 million for this grant. However, when over $8 million in requests came in indicating tremendous need aligned to our strategy, we found a way to provide an additional $1.7 million in funding. Welcome Mikayla Hinz, our new Content Marketing Specialist at Colorado Gives Foundation! 🎉 Mikayla joined the Foundation in September 2024 as our Content Marketing Specialist, with an extensive background in content management, digital marketing and professional photography. Her most recent role was at the Colorado State University Alumni Association as the Social & Digital Marketing Specialist. She also brings expertise from her roles as Social Media Coordinator for Ziggi’s Coffee, and as the owner and main photographer of her photography business, Boho-West Photos. Mikayla has a bachelor’s degree in communication studies with a minor in technical and science communication from Colorado State University. When she’s not at work or taking photos, you can find her enjoying the Rocky Mountains with her fiancé and their miniature-dachshund, at the yoga studio or at the lake.

Welcome Emma Perez Steuer, our new Program Officer at Colorado Gives Foundation! 🎉 Emma joined the Foundation in September 2024 as a Program Officer with a range of experience in nonprofit management, community engagement and partnership development. She brings expertise from her previous roles as Executive Director of Union Hall, Stakeholder Engagement Manager for the Biennial of Americas and Development Associate for the World Federalist Movement. With skills varying from strategic planning to public speaking, event coordination and budget development, Emma brings an eye for detail and strong program management knowledge to her role. She earned her bachelor’s degree in international relations & Spanish, with a minor in philosophy at State University of New York, Geneseo.
