Judy’s husband, Tom, ignored his doctor's recommendation at 54 to get a colonoscopy despite being healthy and active. He experienced occasional bloody stools and heartburn after meals but thought it was nothing serious. However, when he finally got the colonoscopy, it revealed stage IV rectal cancer. Tom underwent chemo and radiation but, unfortunately, passed away 28 months later. Judy shares his experience to highlight the importance of getting regular colonoscopies and listening to your body, as colorectal cancer “can sneak up on anyone, even those who are healthy and have no family history.” Take this quiz to determine when you should get screened: quiz.getscreened.org.
