Whew! It has been a busy few weeks and I have not had a chance to post! What a fantastic experience attending the National Association of Home Builders 2024 Spring Leadership Meetings and Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C.! It was incredible to see the Capitol up close and to have the opportunity to advocate for our industry directly with our lawmakers. During our meetings on Capitol Hill, we discussed several pressing issues impacting housing affordability and accessibility. However, I was surprised to learn that some of the NAHB's top concerns weren't top of mind for a few of our legislators. This highlighted the importance of NAHB's advocacy efforts and the need for continued dialogue to ensure these critical issues receive the attention they deserve. Key issues we focused on included: Fixing Supply Chain Disruptions, specifically transformers. Reversing Restrictive Energy Codes by balancing sustainability with affordability to make homeownership attainable for more families. Easing Workforce Shortages by supporting programs like Job Corps and Careers In Construction Colorado to maintain a skilled labor force that is vital for the housing market. NAHB's leadership meetings and LegCon highlighted the impact of rising permit fees, land taxes, and restrictive zoning requirements on housing affordability. In addition to the productive meetings, I managed to squeeze in a few hours to visit the monuments and museums that are so valuable to our nation. It was a reminder of the rich history and the importance of the work we do to build a better future. I strongly recommend that others in our industry get involved in the National Association of Home Builders' leadership environment. Your voice and participation can make a significant difference in shaping the policies that impact our industry and communities.
