Water, water, everywhere. That's one of the big takeaways from CoreLogic's 2024 Hurricane Risk Assessment. While the season doesn't end until Nov. 30, the most intense storms tend to form August - October. Think Katrina (8/29/05 and Hurricane Sandy (10/24/12). While winds are always a big risk factor, storm surge flooding is something even those well beyond coastal areas need to factor into their own risk assessments. We're on our way to achieving some aggressive growth goals this year, and we know building out our team is critical to meeting those goals. But as anyone in the insurance industry will tell you, it's not easy to find the right folks. So we concentrate on four areas; * Referral program. “It’s an accountability thing, says Jacob Boon, who directs our recruiting efforts. "If we have current employees willing to refer people, it’s a sign they are glad to be here and are willing to help us find folks they know will do a good job." * Internships. An extensive internship program identifies those new to the industry that show potential. We've been running a summer program for several years now, and are looking to expand that with a possible January program as well. * Training Programs. Full time trainers at an agency isn’t very common, but it should be, as well as programs to obtain the appropriate licensure, and an in-house sales training program. They're just a sound business investment. * Generous Benefits. Whether new to the workforce or making a mid-career shift, a generous benefits package goes a long way to fostering a motivated and committed team, and elevates you from your peers. The vast majority of Millennials - 8 out of 10 - don't really understand the range of employment opportunities in the insurance industry, according to a survey from The Institutes Griffith Insurance Education Foundation and The Institutes CPCU Society. When you consider that the more insurance career-aware Baby Boomers are soon to be eclipsed in the workforce by GenZ, the search for qualified candidates to fill the insurance industry job pipeline gets tricky. Where do we start?
