  • Thanks to the Affordable Connectivity Program, over 23 million households across the United States have benefited from high-speed Internet connectivity.  Today, unfortunately, funding for the Affordable Connectivity Program lapses. As of June 1, millions of households will lose support for the connectivity they have come to rely on for work, school, and health care. Millions may face rising bills and increasing disconnection from Internet service.      The end of the ACP will undo the significant progress we have made toward closing the divide and harm millions of Americans.      Connectivity has never been more important. By ensuring that all Americans can afford high-speed Internet, the ACP is an investment in our nation’s prosperity and the promise of opportunity for all. It is critical that Congress act to save the ACP and keep the progress made to close the digital divide. • This week, I had the opportunity to visit with government leaders from the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe. I had a great meeting with Chairwoman Pete, Vice Chairwoman Yazzie, Chief of Police Owens, and IT Director Roman, where we talked about Public Safety and telecommunications as well as communications infrastructure matters. Thank you for hosting such a productive meeting!

I was in Orlando, Florida this week, and teamed up with Congressman Darren Soto to advocate for the Affordable Connectivity Program. We hosted a roundtable at the Orlando Veterans Affairs Medical Center with members of the Veteran Community to discuss the importance of ACP and addressing the Veterans digital divide. Florida has over 1.7 million households enrolled in ACP. That means 1 in 5 households benefit from the program. In Florida's 9th district, 28% of households are enrolled. The Veteran community in Central Florida benefits significantly from the program, which enhances access to crucial services, including telehealth. Between October 2023 and March 2024, telehealth visits accounted for 36% of Orlando VAMC's appointments. Given the high demand for medical care among Veterans in Central Florida, improving connectivity and telehealth access is essential for former service members to receive necessary care. #savetheacp

I spent last week briefing members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus about what is at stake if the Affordable Connectivity Program is not refunded, and millions lose support for connectivity at the end of April. Thank you to Representative Nanette Barragán and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus for having me. I am committed to doing everything I can to ensure that the ACP continues to support struggling families. It is our greatest tool to closing the digital divide, and too much progress is at stake to end now. Let's save the ACP. #savetheacp
