We want to take this opportunity to tell you more about your hosts at the Common Ground Summit, as orienting ourselves in community is part and parcel of orienting ourselves in place. Meet: Common Ground, the Place Common Ground is a regenerative hospitality company located on the North Shore of Kauai. The 60-acre campus is steeped in rich history with a regenerative agroforest, event spaces, forthcoming restaurant (launching late 2026), support systems for local businesses, and co-working and production facilities. The campus is a space for shared experience, shared learning and deep human connection. Our goal is to augment regenerative practices and provide immersive experiences to build a regenerative community where people find common ground through food as great connector. Visiting Common Ground means becoming part of a community of people committed to learning about and immersing in place together. Meet: Common Ground Ensemble, the Community Common Ground Ensemble is Common Ground's community and movement, a platform for deep human connection and cooperation. Ensemble seeks to foster reciprocal and transformational relationships, accelerate and augment human talent, and give voice to unique stories and perspectives. We celebrate the individual while acknowledging that real systemic change can only come from the collective. Common Ground Ensemble is a curated network of talented people who care, along with the infrastructure needed to make things happen. It is rooted in the yearning for connection to the essentials of existence: Connecting to other humans from all different backgrounds and cultures—with their food, traditions, heritage and wisdom, their relation to nature—and to the next generation. Born at Common Ground ☀ Our network is like a rhizome, a nomadic system of growth and propagation where every element is interconnected. An inspiring environment where co-creation is the rule, not the exception. Below are just a few examples of initiatives that have been born or accelerated at the Common Ground Summit: 🌴 Through our diverse and eclectic community, we brought award-winning filmmakers, funders, and community faith leaders together. They are now developing a film project focused on a pivotal moment in American history. 🌴 Ensemble members came together since last year and have been working on the incubation of a truly inclusive fashion movement 🌴 A research lab using AI secured funding to ensure that indigenous communities retain the downstream benefits of traditional plants that are often commodified and commercialized. 🌴 Academic collaborations between community education leaders and university professors happened throughout the country. 🌴 A partnership between Earth University and Common Ground formed to create opportunities for youth from the African and South American continents in Agricultural Sciences. 🌴 Community hubs and groups coming together over shared meals in Brooklyn, SF, LA and Oahu, to bring Summit ideas and values to our community. 🌴 Chef collaborations and pop-ups between chefs from Hawaii and Chile. We've also seen people travel across the world to meet up with friends they've made at the Summit; people have been welcomed into family homes when traveling abroad thanks to connections made. This is community. This is connection and collaboration. This is how we make great things happen, and we hope to share this unique experience with you in November. Agroforestry: A Rich Metaphor for Community 🌱 🌴 🌸 We consider the agroforest to be not only a wildly effective solution to several global challenges, but also a rich metaphor for our diverse community. It is a system where every element plays a role. Where each entity benefits from all the other parts of the whole. In perhaps the most simple terms, agroforestry supports the interaction of agriculture and trees on a single piece of land. The trees support the agriculture. The intent is not solely tree production, but a greater food yield and regeneration of the soil. In our present reality of definite climate change, the practice of agroforestry gives farmers and communities increased resilience and food sovereignty. Interconnection is the rule in an agroforest—and in community. Every element plays a role. Everything—and everyone—benefits when any participant in the system thrives. Resilience is necessarily collective. Climate Week through the Common Ground Lens 🌱 “We are in the age of urgency.” So declares the invitation to Climate Week NYC, happening now. Tens of thousands of people will participate in hundreds of parallel events across New York City, with climate leaders and critical conversations shaping the world for future generations. Meanwhile, we are gearing up for our own gathering of regenerative leaders in Kauai in November, where we will delve deeply into our vision for the future from many intersecting angles. Of special interest are the lessons to be gleaned from our unique Summit location. Our campus for the Common Ground Summit is home to an inspiring model of permaculture in action, offering participants a hands-on education in regeneration through the metaphor of our tropical agroforest. Common Ground marries centuries-old production models with innovative biological farming applications, which will allow the annual plantings to adapt to the evolving needs of the venture as a whole over the course of several years.
