"You have the right to say what happens to your stuff---and so few people exercise that right!" ---Kim Klein, fundraising expert and author of Fundraising for Social Change Commonweal is part of a consortium of West Marin non-profit organizations that are promoting legacy giving this fall. Funded by West Marin Fund, the efforts have resulted in eight workshops in various locations in West Marin, answering questions and offering resources for creating or updating wills and trusts that can leave a lasting legacy for your values and your possessions. Legacy giving is not just for the wealthy--everyone has something to leave behind to organizations that mirror your values. Join one of the remaining free workshops! https://lnkd.in/gHQ9kfqk Tuesday October 1 • 5-7pm Tomales Town Hall (Interpretación en español disponible) Sunday October 6 • 10am-12pm Lodge at Marconi, Marshall Sunday October 13 • 10:30am-12:30pm San Geronimo Valley Community Center Wednesday October 23 • 11am-1pm Bolinas Museum #wills #lastinglegacy #legacygiving #bequest

From Bira Azevedo, one of the facilitators at this summer's Power of Hope youth camp at our campus in Bolinas: The Power of Hope!!!! https://lnkd.in/gZGTW2pS Think of an environment that fosters our individual potentials and, at the same time, shows us what we are most like when we are collective. Now think that with young people Think this with nature and art. Power of Hope! I was in California this early July to participate for the second year of the Power of Hope Camp Facilitators team. The camp has been going on for more than 10 years and has inspired the Creative Empowerment methodology we use in our @arteria_criatividade In practice, there are 2 days dedicated to team training and 8 days of camp with the teenagers, filled with the most diverse activities and processes. All dedicated to promoting our ability to build community, with creativity and diversity as essential parts of it. I come home nourished and with many learnings about the youth and how they are perceiving the world. I reaffirm my confidence in creativity, arts, and nature as sources to guide and engage us in life. A big thank you to the team of @powerofhopecampbolinas Especially to @suittsyouwrite @amberfaur and @samaralou for their trust and the invitation to be with you. To all the team of @commonwealbolinas who always receives me in a warm manner. And a tight hug to each person on the staff team, with whom I shared this incredible journey @byeonghyeonmusic @rmndo @makeit.ryn @world.of.sophie @chisamoon @isisxfaith @afreakano @keature @daring.arts.movement

From Commonweal's Collaborative for Health and Environment: NEW post on the CHE Blog! As the plastics treaty negotiations continue in Ottawa, CHE director Kristin Schafer urges officials to resist pressure from the petrochemical industry and "take advantage of the multisolving opportunity before them" to protect communities from toxic chemicals AND address the climate crisis. "These international processes can be a messy blend of political maneuvering, scientific evidence, advocacy, and savvy lobbying. And when it comes to plastics, the stakes are very high." healthandenvironment.org
