CEAL recognizes the importance of elevating Indigenous voices in research, ensuring their expertise guides innovative solutions for their communities. That is why this year, we launched the American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AI/AN NHPI) Enrichment Initiative, a transformative effort determined to tackle health disparities in historically underrepresented communities. This CEAL program fosters community-driven, scientifically rigorous research to address disparities in social and structural determinants of health, engaging experts with specialized knowledge in community outreach and engagement with AI/AN NHPI communities. Charisse S. Iglesias, PhD, Training and Resource Director, has been invited to attend a 5-day residential program on Centering on Equity: Transforming the Health Science Knowledge System hosted by the Salzburg Global Seminar and the RWJF from October 7-12, 2024 in Salzburg, Austria. The Health Science Knowledge System (HSKS) has long addressed the treatment of disease. The HSKS reinforces research, educational, and practice norms aligned with historically established practices of scientific integrity that come with embedded bias, contributing to inequalities and systemic failures. We look forward to hearing all about this incredible opportunity! Congratulations, Charisse.
