  • We are saddened to announce the passing of Corina Castro, the longest-tenured employee in CCGD history. She passed away July 3, 2024, after celebrating her 49th Anniversary with Community Council. Corina was a cherished member of Community Council of Greater Dallas. Corina’s mother was instrumental in the War on Poverty in the 1960’s and introduced Corina to Community Council in 1975 when she was 19 years old. Corina was hired as a secretary to the Executive Director Norman Morehead in 1975. He was the first Director of the Dallas Area Agency on Aging which was under Community Council. She worked for Mr. Morehead for 30 years until his retirement. After he left, she continued to work for Community Council in its Agency on Aging division. She was in charge of preparing for all of the Agency on Aging’s Community Events and made sure that everything was presented professionally and smoothly. She was actively involved with the Texas Silver Haired Legislators and the DAAA Advisory Council. Corina was a constant reassuring presence at Community Council working under 6 different supervisors and under 5 different CEOs. She was committed to helping those in her community who were living in poverty and spent her life assisting others. Corina loved to read and share books and had a book exchange with several employees who shared her passion for reading. Her co-workers especially remember Corina for her meticulous organization and her tireless dedication to her job. Even though she hated driving, and often rode the bus to work, she showed up for her job. Through snow, sleet, or rain she set an example for the rest of the staff with her hard work and cheerful disposition. Her absence leaves a hole in our hearts. In Corina’s honor, the Community Council’s "Employee of the Year Award" has been renamed the "Corina Castro Employee of the Year Award." Thank you, Corina, for your service to Community Council and to our Dallas Community. You are deeply missed. Anga Sanders Sharla Myers John Cuellar Jafferali Jamal Jessica Walker O.
