About us

CEB was established in 2012 after Bank of America donated the former MBNA Bracebridge IV building to The Longwood Foundation. Living up to its commitment of increasing access to education, the Longwood Foundation created CEB as an independent entity, and transformed the space into an ecosystem to support the social, emotional, physical, and academic development of Wilmington’s youth. CEB is an innovative co-location and shared services model. Focused on supporting the entire family, CEB offers vibrant programs and support systems that provide a sound foundation for each student. It serves as a hub for families by offering services such as healthy meals, life coaches, and mental health services. This model leads to deeper family engagement in their child’s learning and allows schools to focus on teaching and learning, not operations and overhead. CEB is an educational ecosystem that holistically integrates programs and resources for students and their families, ensuring that every student has an equitable opportunity to succeed.

  • The Lenape, also known as the Delaware Indians, are one of the oldest Indigenous nations in North America, and the original people of what we now know as Delaware, with roots that extend back thousands of years in what is now the northeastern United States.  Originating in the Delaware River Valley, the Lenape were stewards of the land in present-day New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, southeastern New York, and throughout the territory of Delaware. Their name, "Lenape," means "the original people" in their indigenous language, reflecting their deep connection to the land and each other. In the 1600s, European settlers arrived, leading to intense pressures on Lenape communities due to land loss, disease, and conflict. Over time, many Lenape were displaced, often through forced treaties and migration. As they were pushed westward, the Lenape's journey took them to Ohio, Indiana, and eventually further to Kansas, Oklahoma, and even into Canada. Today, the Lenape people are dispersed across various regions, including federally recognized tribes like the Delaware Tribe of Indians in Oklahoma, the Delaware Nation in Anadarko, Oklahoma, and the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans in Wisconsin. Despite the geographic spread, the Lenape continue to honor their heritage, passing down traditional practices, language, and cultural values. Their history is a testament to resilience, adaptation, and the enduring spirit of the Lenape people. #CEBofDE #CEBDE #Wilmington #DelawareRiver #DelawareTribes #Lenape #DelawareIndians #IndigenousHistory #NativeAmericanHeritage #Resilience #CulturalPreservation #IndigenousPeoplesDay

  • The entire CEB collaborative utilizes Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and mindfulness as the foundation of our collaborative education culture. Developing these skills is not only beneficial to our students in their school experience, but crucial in shaping them to be impactful, considerate leaders in the future. Social Emotional Learning in early childhood helps students to maintain confidence through life’s challenges. By fostering skills around emotional articulation and regulation, self awareness and self acceptance, empathy and understanding, we are preparing students for a growth mindset, and the mental wellness skillset needed to face life’s inevitable challenges. This is something we foster within all of our programming, and having resident partners like @delawareguidanceservices has made it possible for us to thoroughly support students and families to lead more fulfilling and sustainable lives. We thank all our our collaborators for making this collective commitment to social and emotional excellence! #cebde #worldmentalhealthday #mentalhealthmatters #socialemotionallearning #mentalhealtheducation

On May 6th, CEB hosted the 2024 Legislators Breakfast, an annual event facilitating communication and collaboration with CEB leadership and local legislators. CEB, founded in 2012, is an urban education collaborative whose impact ensures that the 1,300 youth and their families it serves has an equitable opportunity to be healthy and successful in school and life. CEB is expanding, with the construction of a Youth Development Center (YDC), to include an early learning center, gymnasiums, and a black box theatre, and classrooms, providing Wilmington youth with a safe and enriching place to learn and be healthy. The Bridge will be CEB’s second expansion project, slated to open in 2027, with a donation of a second building from Bank of America, formerly known as Bracebridge II. Modeled after CEB, the Bridge will be an innovative post-secondary education center that will be home to Widener University’s Delaware law School, and Delaware State University’s expansion of its College of Health and Sciences. Serving over 2,000 students, faculty and staff, the Bridge will drive economic growth in the areas of housing and business, as well overall community revitalization for the City of Wilmington, DE and the State of Delaware. The acceptance of the building donation is contingent on sufficient government funds being allocated to the project. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in our recent events - the 2024 Legislators Breakfast. Your engagement and collaboration are invaluable to us! #cebde #wilmington #cebexpansion
