Exciting news! 🎉 Community Vision was awarded $2.35M from the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund). This vital funding will directly support our work to advance racial and economic equity, land justice, and community ownership across California. This award allows us to deliver flexible capital and responsive advising to community-rooted organizations, helping them purchase, preserve, and develop social purpose real estate. From affordable housing to healthcare, education, and cultural spaces, we are committed to supporting nonprofits and businesses that reflect the priorities and dreams of low-income and BIPOC communities. Community Vision and Genesis LA have been awarded a $425K grant from U.S. Bank to fuel the next phase of our California Community-Owned Real Estate (CalCORE) program! In 2021, we launched CalCORE, a multi-year, statewide program in partnership with Genesis LA. It is a testament to the value and importance of small businesses and community-based organizations. CalCORE empowers them to take control of commercial real estate, driving neighborhood stabilization and community wealth-building. Many thanks to U.S. Bank for investing in economic development and community empowerment. Through the Community Possible program areas of Work, Home, and Play, U.S. Bank focuses on addressing economic inequities and creating lasting change in California communities. #CommunityVision #CommunityOwnership #CommunityPossible #USBank

Congratulations to our client, the GLBT Historical Society, on this exciting milestone in their journey to create a full-scale LGBTQ history and culture museum in San Francisco! Over the past year, Community Vision’s consulting team worked with the GLBT Historical Society on pre-development and exploring potential museum sites, in collaboration with Ventura Partners and the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development. We're honored to support this important project. #CommunityVision #CommunityOwnership
GLBT Historical Society made big moves in the Castro today! 🏳️🌈 Today Mayor London Breed and Supervisor Rafael Mandelman announced the acquisition of a site slated to be the new permanent home for the GLBT Historical Society museum and archives 🏛️ This milestone ensures that this vital cultural institution has a long-lasting space to preserve and celebrate LGBTQ+ history for generations to come. We are honored and excited to build off the years of collaboration and efforts from the City and County of San Francisco, Community Vision CA, and Ventura Partners along with the GLBT Historical Society and the many LGBTQ+ leaders who have been advocating for this for decades. This is a critical step forward in safeguarding the stories and legacies of LGBTQ+ leaders and activists. 🙌 Read the full press release: https://lnkd.in/gFfB3vCg #CASTSF #LGBTQHistory #LGBTQHistoryMuseum #GLBTHistoricalSociety #SanFranciscoArts

We are grateful for the Adrian Dominican Sisters, who were among Community Vision's earliest investors more than 30 years ago! #CommunityOwnership #CommunityVision #SocialJusticeInvesting #ImpactInvesting
Did you know the CDFI industry’s earliest financial backers were congregations of Catholic nuns? In the 1970s, Women Religious, including Sister Corinne Florek and the Adrian Dominican Sisters, took bold steps by investing their retirement savings in CDFIs. They made their first deposit in ShoreBank in 1977 and soon after established a Community Investment Fund in 1978. To date, the Adrian Dominican Sisters have made over 500 loans, totaling more than $37 million! These visionary women sought not only meaningful social impact but also financial accountability. By aligning their investments with their values, they helped set a strong standard of fiduciary responsibility within the CDFI industry, ensuring capital was returned to investors like them. Back in 2016, we proudly provided an acquisition loan to support Planting Justice, an agricultural nonprofit, in purchasing their East Oakland nursery. Today, their incredible work continues to flourish. In a beautiful new chapter, Planting Justice purchased an old nursery in El Sobrante. With the transformation of this property, the organization is meeting community needs through a weekly farmers market (with vendors being charged no fees to participate) and the creation of "The Good Table" – a community-centered space featuring a pay-what-you-can café, a garden, and more. Their mission extends beyond just growing food, as they provide living-wage jobs and empower formerly incarcerated individuals.
