Richard Guerra Moreno, Employment Specialist, was in the United States Marine Corps Tactical Training and Exercise Control Group for five years, and the Washington State Army National Guard 1-181 BCO for five years. What an exciting day for us here in Spokane! Mayor Lisa Brown gave a proclamation for Disability Employment Awareness Month at the Community Employment Alliance (CEA) Conference this morning. This proclamation came to fruition after Compass Employment Specialist, Sydney Krebsbach worked hard to convince her to do so. During her speech, Mayor Brown shared, "you’re applauding me right now, but I applaud you for the work you do in the Spokane community." Later in the afternoon, Sydney spoke on a Self Advocate Discussion Panel, alongside John Lemus, Advocacy Manager, and Tammy Bowen, Advocacy Support Specialist, sharing more about their roles and responsibilities. The panel allowed audience members to learn more about how to make their communities more accessible. Great work, Sydney! This weekend was full of spooky fun and sweet surprises! Compass Longview participated in the 2024 Trick or Treat Walk at the Lake. The event had approx. 5,000 attendees and participation of over 75 local businesses. Get to know today's #CompassSuccessStory, Lela! She was approved for FCS housing services with Compass Career Solutions in December of 2023. Lela's doctor was concerned about her health and current living conditions, as Lela could only prepare her meals in a microwave, wash her dishes in her bathtub and was constantly dealing with bugs in her home. After connecting with Compass staff and her caregiver Maria, Lela was relocated to a new home. Lela is excited to have a one-bedroom, cook meals in a kitchen and wash dishes in a sink. Lela has a view of the lake, is close to the park, and has some restaurants nearby. Lela stated, "I am thrilled here and feel much safer in my new home."
