Powering NYC, Westchester, and leading the clean energy transition.
About us
We provide power to more than 10 million people and businesses across NYC and Westchester. Reliability and accessibility are central to what we do and how we provide energy service. Leading the industry to power tomorrow is our other focus- we are committed to aggressively transitioning away from fossil fuels to a net-zero economy by 2050. To help achieve this we collaborate with customers, regulators, policymakers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure our clean energy future is informed by principles of affordability, equity, and environmental justice. We’re also heavily investing in new technologies and the infrastructure that can get us there. What are a few things we have achieved so far? • Since 2009, our energy efficiency programs have prevented 11 million metric tons of carbon emissions – the same amount it would take to power 1.4 million homes for a year • Recently, we’ve embarked on an 8-year project to make our systems more resilient in the face of extreme weather events

The Low Income Energy assistance program (LIHEAP) is a federally funded program that assists families with energy costs. In the last two years, LIHEAP has funded over $3.6 million in assistance for over 12k of our customers with low income in the five boroughs and Westchester. We’ve recently met with policymakers in Washington DC to advocate for the continued funding of this vital customer assistance program. Learn more: http://spr.ly/60480nIXi

In partnership with ArtBridge Projects and in collaboration with NY-based artist Sophia Chizuco we are enhancing the beautification of our neighborhood by celebrating art through a 900-foot-long scaffolding installation. This project showcases a variety of artistic approaches and colors that embody different forms of "Illuminating Energy Flow". Our goal is to inspire both the community and artists to envision a clean energy future. This initiative highlights the vital role of art in fostering community engagement and raising awareness about environmental sustainability.

Our CEO Tim Cawley recently joined New York Jobs CEO Council at Baruch College college to speak about his career and the lessons he’s learned in his 37 years on the job. He touched on many topics, from employee and public safety and maintaining the flow of energy to keep the lights on to his professional development and the importance of remaining a curious learner. Here are some highlights: On Safety- As CEO, employee and public safety is what keeps him up at night, with safety a core value for all Con Edison employees. Every meeting starts with a safety briefing because every day Con Edison employees work with high-voltage electricity, high-pressure gas, and high-pressure steam, and even small missteps can have serious consequences. Tim reinforced the emphasis on getting it right every time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week to ensure our employees go home the same way they came to work. On Trusting the Process-Changing roles was the constant through Tim’s career and remains a cornerstone in Con Edison’s leadership development program. As a result, he has held various roles that allowed him to develop a diverse skill set and a deep understanding of the organization. From electric operations, managing overhead crews, to roles in the control center and audit. His breadth of experience has given him deep operational expertise and a thorough understanding of the complexities involved in delivering the most reliable power in the nation to the most populous city in the country. On Learning Agility-Tim emphasized how college provides the platform to learn and engage with peers but that first job helps build and apply technical skills. Throughout his career he’s never lost his curiosity to learn and to grow and he noted how important it is to dig into new challenges every day and not to sweat it if you don’t have everything figured out right away. Con Edison is driven by our commitment to deliver safe, reliable energy to our customers to keep our region thriving. Our more than 14,000 employees reflect the diverse communities where we live and serve. We are proud to be a career choice for the thousands of dynamic and talented Baruch and CUNY alumni who work here. Thanks to @NYCCEO Jobs Council for hosting this event and for all the great questions from the curious learners at Baruch College. Watch a video of the conversation, here:
