People make it happen! Recently Hurricane Helene made an enormous impact on the local and regional area creating massive damage. It was a bit humbling and overwhelming when everyone emerged from their shelter viewing the devastation when storm had finally passed. As much as all attempted to be prepared, there was no way of knowing the enormity and severity of the situation until it occurred. Power, internet, water, gas, and food was either nonexistent or scarce creating hardships and stress. Fear and a feeling of helplessness soon followed affecting everyone. However, depth of the human spirit, faith, and community rose from the wreckage as people began stepping forward to help each other. Lines of separation blurred as friends, neighbors, family, fellow employees, and strangers crossed paths to keep each other together. People shared food, physical help, gas, cell phones, water, conversation, assurance, and hugs while interacting with each other. This is why we all as a community need each other much more than one would ever have guessed. Our own office was impacted by the storm and its effects. We all worked together to utilize the resources we had at our disposal and take care of our clients’ needs as best we could along with each other in the ensuing days. Sitting side by side in a partially lit office running on a small generator and with a few team members working remotely, we worked diligently to maintain payrolls for hundreds of clients and their thousands of employees. Mixing in humor, teamwork, coordination, and food helped keep the momentum flowing while the surrounding area slowly got itself patched back together. Many other workplaces in the area experienced the same situation we did after Hurricane Helene, but there is something special about our group’s experience due to the foundation of our company values. Faced with their own struggles due to the many issues created by the devastation, our team of owners and employees stepped up to ensure that client payrolls were processed on schedule so employees would not suffer without their pay. Dedication is just a word, but this group exemplified dedication beyond any dictionary reference while becoming a tighter knit group in the process.

ACTS Hurricane Helene Update: Dear Friends, I hope this email finds you safe in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Even if you were among the few who did not lose power, the disruption caused by this catastrophic storm has affected all of us. Sadly, there are many who see no end to their plight without help for their basic needs. We have never seen this level of devastation across Aiken County. It has resulted in an ever-growing number of individuals and families in our community who need the type of assistance provided by ACTS. We are finding the need is not limited to any age group. Individuals – old and young – and families who have sustained damages to their homes and cars are in dire straits. There is no safety net for them without the services provided through the generosity of ACTS and our community partners. Power was restored at ACTS on Sunday evening. We have been operating since Monday as follows:   •   Clients in need of food assistance continue to receive food for their families. We are able to tailor food orders based on the client’s ability to prepare the food. •   Clothing is being distributed to clients who have been affected. •   Medical assistance, such as prescription assistance, is available to those with immediate needs. •   Some of our clients who still have power are at risk of having their utilities disconnected. We continue to provide utility assistance to ensure power remains on. This has been especially impactful for our clients with serious medical conditions and the elderly. Many of our staff and volunteers continue to be personally impacted and yet they remain committed to help others who are suffering. We continue to assess the need for assistance in other impacted areas of the County. The need is great and we know that we will be in recovery mode for weeks to come. Together, our community will recover but there is much to be done. Many of us have been touched by the kindness of others in our community and by working together, we can help alleviate the suffering of Aiken County residents. Thank you for your support of our mission. In Jesus Name,  Suzanne Jackson Executive Director
