  • 🌿 Internal Meeting on the CONE Project at Municipality of Poljčane 🌿 Earlier this week the Municipality of Poljčane hosted a first core team meeting dedicated to the Interreg CE CONE project. The meeting brought together Mayor dr. Petra Vrhovnik, municipal employees, and external experts to discuss key aspects of the project: 🔹 Nature-Based Solutions (NBS): We explored potential NBS solutions to be implemented in Poljčane, aiming to improved management of river embankments. 🔹 Site Analysis: A thorough site analysis will be conducted before implementing NBS to ensure the best possible outcomes. 🔹 Living Lab Approach: We discussed the Living Lab process, which will engage the community in co-creating and testing the most effective NBS solutions. 🔹 Stakeholder Engagement: Identifying key stakeholders who will play a crucial role in the project’s success. This meeting marked an important step in shaping a greener future for Poljčane. Stay tuned for updates as we move forward with the CONE project! 🌍💚 #ProjectCONE #Poljčane #NatureBasedSolutions

  • Municipality of Poljcane 🏡 🌿 Nature-Based Solutions (NBS): A Scientific Approach to Tackling Societal Challenges 🌍 We’ve been showcasing inspiring examples of nature-based solutions (NBS), but it’s time to take a step back and provide a clear explanation for those who may not yet be familiar with the concept. At their core, NBS are innovative, nature-inspired approaches to addressing some of the most pressing societal challenges of our time. Rooted in natural processes, NBS are designed to tackle issues like climate change, urbanization, and public health by working with nature rather than against it. Since their introduction in 2008 through global and European policy initiatives, the concept has been championed by organizations like the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the European Commission (EC). So, what exactly are NBS? They are solutions inspired by nature that are cost-effective, resilient, and multi-functional. They aim to solve real-world problems—such as managing water resources, improving air quality, or regenerating urban areas—by mimicking or supporting natural processes. For example, integrating green infrastructure into cities does more than just create habitats or enhance biodiversity. It also mitigates urban heat islands, reduces noise, manages stormwater, and improves public well-being. This dual focus on ecological and societal benefits is what makes NBS so transformative. Let’s embrace NBS as a pathway to harmonizing nature and society! 🌱

  • Project of Sunny Island 🌞 🏝️ In October 2024, the construction of the long-prepared Sunny Island project in České Budějovice began. The project is aimed at promoting green infrastructure in the urban environment to improve biodiversity. This will create an attractive place for relaxation in České Budějovice with two separate islands on the Vltava River. The construction of the Sunny Island is co-financed by the European Union within the project "Sunny Island - Jirásekovo nábřeží, České Budějovice".

  • Star Pier to be built in České Budějovice 🌊 🌟 The main supporting structure of the pier will be carried by columns on piles leaning into the river bed. The bank edge will be fortified with natural rubble stone at the pier site. The study proposes a walking surface for the pier made of wood and in a barrier-free design. In collaboration with the neighbouring observatory, illuminated constellations of the summer and winter sky and their descriptions are proposed on the extended handrail of the railing, as well as a rotatable star map for better celestial orientation. This public contract is being procured using the Design & Build method.
