This report on the Microsoft Secure Future Initiative is fascinating. Even more than the technical details, I appreciate that Microsoft is adopting a culture of security that involves every employee in the organization. At Conflux, we have wholeheartedly agreed with this position for quite some time. Security isn't a role or department, but a culture that must be part of every job. To drive this, Microsoft has: 1. Created a Cybersecurity Governance Council and appointed Deputy CISOs for all engineering divisions 2. Made security a priority for all employees, and empowered them to place security above all else, and included this in performance reviews 3. Provided all users with Security Training programs 4. SFI reports are reviewed weekly by SLT and is tied to their performance/comp plans This hits on all the right points - everyone has to care and leadership has to be bought in. On Friday (9/20), Microsoft announced the deprecation of WSUS. What does this mean? First, it means you shouldn't expect any new features to be added to the WSUS product. You will still be able to use it to provide updates to your organization, and this will likely remain true for some time. Microsoft has confirmed that the role will be available in Server 2025, which indicates another 10 years of support. Second, Microsoft recommends that you plan a migration to Intune or Autopatch for endpoints and Azure Update Manager for servers. This likely only makes sense if you are transitioning to a full cloud model. Third-party solutions exist for patch management in other public cloud environments (such as AWS Patch Manager/Systems Manager in AWS) and on-premises environments, if the Microsoft recommended options don't fit your needs. #ConfluxCloud #Microsoft #Windows #WindowsServer #WSUS #Intune #Autpatch #Azure #Security #Updates
