The CTAMFT Advocacy Committee is looking forward to the 2025 Legislative Session and another active season of advocating for MFTs in Connecticut! This year, CT has a long legislative session which means more opportunities to fight for what is important to us as providers in the state. As a vital stage of preparation for the legislative session, we need your support to connect with Connecticut legislators! We are asking you to contact your legislators and ask to meet with them to talk about what we as MFTs need. These coffee talks can be held in person, virtually or even by phone. We have found most legislators welcome these conversations and are open to the feedback we give. We have identified 5 key committees in the Connecticut General Assembly and we are currently building and strengthening relationships with the committee leadership and members. Legislators love to hear from their constituents and we want them to hear from MFTs about who we are, why we are an integral part of the Connecticut Mental Health Community, and what our concerns and initiatives are for the 2025 Legislative session. If you are interested in or willing to host a fall coffee talk with your legislator please use this link to check your representative and which committees they serve. https://lnkd.in/ehdErP3 If your representative is on the Committee for Children, Human Services Committee, Insurance and Real Estate Committee, Public Health Committee or the Regulation Review Committee; please reach out to CTAMFT Advocacy Chair, Jaime Rodriguez, at advocacy@ctamft.org with the subject line “Fall Coffee Talk” for next steps. #ctamft #lmft #mentalhealthmatters #connecticut #mentalhealthcareishealthcare #ctlegislature #ctlegislation #mentalhealthawareness #therapy #healthandwellness #causes #socialgood #support #change #socialimpact #volunteer

Early voting has officially started in Connecticut! We all know that so much is on the line for this year's election and many decisions we make will impact us as MFTs! Make your voice heard at the ballot box this year and make sure you keep in mind what might impact the work you do! We wanted to take a moment to remind you all that today marks the beginning of a 14-day in-person early voting period for the 2024 general election here in Connecticut. This is a historic moment, as it is the first time the state has offered early voting for a general election. It's noteworthy that Connecticut is now the 47th state to implement an early voting system. During the next two weeks, eligible voters will have the opportunity to cast their ballots in person on any day they prefer, including Saturdays and Sundays. Whether you decide to vote early or wait until Election Day, We strongly encourage everyone to make their voices heard and participate in the election! Don't forget about our Veteran's training next month! Join us on November 15th at Welles-Turner Library in Glastonbury, CT as we welcome a conference favorite, Georjean Lubus and her pups, to teach us about veterans and animal assisted therapy. When working with veterans, we are often faced with the need to treat PTSD and moral injury symptoms. In recent years, therapists have been utilizing animal assisted treatment when working with veterans. This modality has been proven to decrease the need for medication, increase overall mood, and allow veterans to discover new meaning and hope for their lives. During this workshop, attendees will learn how to identify PTSD and Moral Injury symptoms and how to talk about the symptoms with clients. Attendees will also learn and gain first-hand experience utilizing animal assisted treatment and witness its effects in real time. Trained animal assisted dogs will be present and referenced during this workshop. To register for this event, go to https://lnkd.in/eh9PWYwx. #ctamft #continuingeducation #veterans #veteranmentalhealth #lmft #therapists #cttherapists
