Honored to be a part of this important meeting! Thanks to our CEO Nancy Daly for sharing her wisdom along with Swim Across America's CEO Rob Butcher and City of Hope Provost and Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Steven Rosen. Together, we can accelerate breakthroughs in lifesaving research and empower people everywhere to conquer cancer.
Rates of Young-Onset Colorectal Cancer have been on the rise since the mid-1990s globally. It’s an alarming trend that caused Andrea Cercek, MD, to take action. During the Cancer Research and the Road Ahead session at #AVBCC2024, Dr. Cercek, co-director of the Center for Young Onset Colorectal Cancer at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, outlined the exciting findings of her clinical study using immunotherapy alone to treat this aggressive cancer. According to Dr. Cercek, as of April 2024, all 42 patients on this protocol had no sign of their tumor after 6 months of treatment! These truly remarkable outcomes – which audience members met with resounding applause – were made possible through funding from Swim Across America. This announcement followed an in-depth discussion about Swim Across America’s long history of funding young investigators between Rob Butcher, President and CEO of Swim Across America; Nancy Daly, MS, MPS, CEO of Conquer Cancer; and Steven Rosen, MD, FACP, FASCO, FAIMBE, Provost and Chief Scientific Officer of City of Hope. Guests then enjoyed a reception honoring Swim Across America surpassing the $120m funding ceiling for cancer research in 2023. With incredible rates of breast cancer diagnoses, it has touched almost everyone's life in one way or another. The good news: breast cancer death rates have been decreasing steadily since 1989, in part because of the emphasis on research and awareness.
