August Calendar Update | The cast iron ornament adorning the front of Milwaukee's historic Pabst Theater was last gilded over two decades ago. Since then, the harsh elements have taken a toll on the structure, causing significant damage. To restore the beauty of this beloved Milwaukee landmark, artisans removed the deteriorated finish, primed the surfaces, and carefully applied new gold leaf. June Calendar Update | Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, UAC, a National Historic Landmark Church, was devastated by fire in 2018. Longtime clients of CSS, church leaders reached out to the Studio after the tragedy for help conserving and restoring the altar murals and crucifix, which miraculously survived the blaze. CSS also worked with the parish to develop and execute a new decorative scheme for the restored interior that pays homage to previous artwork while complementing the elegant architecture. Did you catch last night's episode of #TopChef? If so, you were able to catch a glimpse at the murals Conrad Schmitt Studios has created in the Historic Miller Caves! The Studio has assisted with several projects within the Caves, including designing and creating new murals in the early 2000s. Due to the high moisture levels within the caves, the walls developed water damage. CSS most recently returned to conserve and repair the 3 murals to ensure that they keep looking their very best. The murals themselves feature nods to Milwaukee beer gardens, German influence, and, of course, the history of the brewing process. If you look closely at the main mural, you can see many familiar faces of past Studio presidents, associates, and our founder, Conrad Schmitt himself! A new four-story-tall mural, which is the largest ever created by the Studio, has been installed at St. Frances Cabrini Parish in West Bend, WI. It took Studio artists more than a year to complete. The incredible 41-foot mural starts with apostles and saints at its base. The focal point of the mural is Christ the King seated on His heavenly throne, surrounded by Our Mother and St. Joseph. The mural is completed by symbols of the Trinity and angels of the Passion and Resurrection. St. Mary's Oratory is the second oldest church in Rockford, IL, and stands beautifully in the city's skyline. Now, our artists are ensuring that the church receives a beautiful interior to match. March Calendar Update | After a reorientation of the altar and pews in 1978, a large, stark, white wall served as a backdrop for the tabernacle. In keeping with the existing artwork currently in the space, iconographic murals were created in the Byzantine style. The focal mural features Christ depicted as the Man of Sorrows surrounded by the symbols of the four evangelists. Above Him is the Christogram "IC IX," a traditional abbreviation of the Greek words for "Jesus Christ." Additional murals to the sides of the sanctuary feature the Lamb of God and the Dove of the Holy Spirit.
