Professor at Irvine Valley College; Human Development Faculty/Department Chair - Early Childhood Education and Teacher Preparation Pathways

#ElevateCD24 Thank you Conscious Discipline for so many great reminders: - Connection before correction - The difference…pause to prevent negative reaction - Self-awareness, pause, self-regulation, and composure - Social Emotional First…the rest will follow - Take a deep breath so you can find options - From Thriving to Surviving in Education - Some of our children carry too much, too young, for way too long - Creating a safe space where all children are seen - Be specific in achievement and general in mistakes…it requires practice - Are you a cheerleader or a judge - Emotional behavior is always asking for understanding - Behavior is not personal…it’s about the child’s internal struggles - What I offer others, I strengthen in myself - Children cannot act differently until they are seen, heard, and valued - Teachers cannot offer positive intent until they choose positive intent - Teachers access their calm/pause first

Passionate Leader in Early Childhood Development | Championing Play-Based Learning & Emotional Growth | Empowering Teams to Build Bright Futures

"We are growth-minded." I read this line every day; it’s on the walls of our schools and front and center in my office at Green Garden. I’m proud to say this core value isn’t just something that lives on paper—it’s lived out daily through the dedication and spirit of our teachers and leaders. I’m especially grateful for leaders like Sam and Roz, who gave up family time (and a bit of sleep) to join me out of state for the Conscious Discipline Elevate Conference. After more than 20 years of using Conscious Discipline in my classrooms and with my own kiddos, this was my first in-person experience—and it did not disappoint! This week left us inspired and empowered to keep building a community where the mental and emotional well-being of children—and the incredible grown-ups who care for and teach them—remains our priority. It was a chance to stretch beyond our comfort zones, envision the future of our Green Garden community, and shape a healthier generation of students and teachers. Wishing you well 🫶 #GrowWithGreenGarden #ConsciousDiscipline #ElevateCD24

When we judge children, we tell them who we think they should be. Judgment implies conditional love or love that makes demands. Encouragement and noticing are about accepting children for who they are. Acceptance shows unconditional love or love that makes no demands. It describes “that which is.” Continue learning more and see noticing examples like these brought to life in this clip with Dr. Becky Bailey: https://lnkd.in/gGJp-vCG
