What if I told you, the educational system isn't broken. It's working exactly the way it's intended to? Our system wasn't built with the intention of creating free and radically thinking creative individuals. I am constantly reminded of this when I see the coercive and oppressive present in today's schools system. I see it present in the one-size-fits-all box curriculum, or systemic practices in which students are expected to be blindly obedient. The way ignoring developmentally appropriate practice is the norm. How we us exclusionary discipline practices in the name of student health and safety while blatantly ignoring the community centering practices that actually increase student sense of belonging and health. It's no wonder that veteran teachers are leaving the field in droves. That teacher preparation programs are seeing an all time low of enrollment. The status quo is failing our students. So, what are we supposed to do about it? 💭 Dream. Yeah, okay, I know that sounds really counter intuitive. But hear me out. In the words of Robin D.G. Kelley from his book Freedom Dreams: The Black Radical Imagination: “Without new visions we don’t know what to build, only what to knock down. We not only end up confused, rudderless, and cynical, but we forget that making a revolution is not a series of clever maneuvers and tactics but a process that can and must transform us.” I first learned about Freedom Dreaming from the phenomenal Tunette Powell, PhD and I've been hungry to learn more ever since. And that concludes Season 1 of the Conscious Pathways podcast! Oh, wow, this has been such a journey. 40 episodes later the Conscious Pathways podcast has been streamed internationally reaching Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania! I never thought I'd have this type of reach when I started this project in late 2023. I am so grateful to every guest who took a chance to join me in the very beginning.
