A new industry study details how powering next-generation data centers by connecting them directly to a nuclear plant instead of relying on the transmission grid saves consumers money, benefits grid reliability and makes more efficient use of clean, carbon-free energy. The study, authored by former PJM Chief Operations Officer Michael Kormos, a 32-year energy industry veteran, explains how costly transmission infrastructure build and long interconnection delays can be avoided by locating the data center behind the meter at a nuclear plant and allocating the associated costs to the data center, rather than other customers on the grid.
