📢 Yesterday, our first event of the fall, Finnish Ambassadors' Insight - Geopolitics and Business in the U.S. Market event kicked off with a buzz! 🇺🇸🇫🇮   🤝 We want to extend special thank you to our speakers, Okko-Pekka Salmimies, Consul General of Finland in Los Angeles, Jarmo Sareva, Consul General of Finland in New York, and Leena-Kaisa Mikkola, Finland's Ambassador to China and Finland's Ambassador to the U.S. as of September 1, 2024, for bringing our member's the latest on developments regarding geopolitics and business. 💡 Key learnings from this event include how Finnish businesses can enhance their market presence by effectively leveraging marketing and influencer strategies. Moreover, B2B companies should conduct thorough due diligence to identify the most advantageous incentives. Every year in late August, heads of Finland’s diplomatic missions abroad convene at their annual meeting in Helsinki. The official meeting on 26-28 August is preceded and followed by numerous events organized by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and by other organizations and stakeholders, including Finnish companies. Today, had a wonderful opportunity to join a panel organized by Amcham Finland Alexandra Pasternak-Jackson together with the incoming Ambassador of Finland in Washington Leena-Kaisa Mikkola and my colleague in Los Angeles Okko-Pekka Salmimies. The event was hosted by DLA Piper Finland. Entitled “Finnish Ambassadors’ Insight: Geopolitics and Business in the U.S. Market”, the event focused on the growing opportunities for Finnish businesses in the U.S. It was great to see many familiar faces among the audience, including Reggie Rusan! Later in the day, IQM Quantum Computers hosted a number of ambassadors at their HQ in Espoo. Thank you Jouni Flyktman, Vice President, and Milja Kalliosaari, Government Relations Manager, for the excellent briefings! I look forward to seeing IQM at the Quantum World Congress in Virginia next month and at our own event in New York in October.

Yesterday, we had the honor of hosting an insightful event at the Consulate General of Finland in New York, featuring Dr. Olli Rehn, Governor of the Bank of Finland (Suomen Pankki - Finlands Bank) and member of the European Central Bank’s Governing Council. The event, titled "The European & Finnish Economy - Pursuing Growth in the Shadow of Geopolitical Challenges", brought critical conversations to the forefront. As Dr. Rehn emphasized, many crucial issues for Europe are at stake, and they have far-reaching implications for the United States, our closest partner and ally. The unwavering support for Ukraine amidst Russia’s threat is vital to maintaining both European and Western unity. International security and NATO’s cohesion must remain top priorities. Equally important is the need to reinforce Europe’s productivity growth and industrial competitiveness. This requires an enhanced focus on improving the business environment, embracing new technologies, and investing in cutting-edge research and innovation across the EU. Furthermore, maintaining price and financial stability is essential for achieving sustainable growth and high employment, which remains the principal contribution of our central banks. As Dr. Rehn said, “this is no time for small talk. Today, I had the opportunity to visit Finnish deep tech startup Hycamite at the Kokkola Industrial Park and tour its new Customer Sample Facility, which will officially open on 5 September. Hycamite’s proprietary and zero-emission methane-splitting technology produces low-carbon hydrogen and high value carbon. Sky’s the limit for Hycamite, seriously! It was a pleasure to be interviewed, together with Matti Malkamäki, Founder and VP of Business Development at Hycamite, about promoting Finnish startups in the U.S. and why Americans should take note of Finnish cleantech companies like Hycamite. Hycamite is also a great example of a startup with not one but two female founders, CEO Laura Rahikka and Vice President of Carbon Products Niina Grönqvist.
