🎉 Congratulations to Mark Pigott, awarded the Prix Charbonnier by Consul General Florian Cardinaux, the Federation of Alliances Françaises, and Alliance Française de Seattle! 🎉 This year’s award honors Mark Pigott, PACCAR CEO from 1997 to 2014, widely recognized in the U.S. and France as a patron of arts and literature. Earlier this year, the Pigott family contributed to the Bibliothèque nationale de France to fund scholarships, conservation technology, and the restoration of the manuscript reading room. Mr. Pigott was also the first lifetime member of the American Friends of the Louvre, supporting academic initiatives through the Mark Pigott Lecture and Research Fund since 2010. The award also celebrates Mr. Pigott’s invaluable support of Alliance Française de Seattle and the Federation of Alliances Françaises USA in promoting French culture throughout Seattle and Washington State. His contributions strengthen the visibility of the French language, culture, and the Alliance Française network. The French Consulate in SF is excited to host master perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena, creator of Hermès’ gardens, at Villa Albertine San Francisco. In talks with the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, we’re exploring a potential landscape-themed collaboration—more details soon! Ellena’s journey began in Grasse, picking jasmine with his grandmother. By 16, he was apprenticing with Antoine Chiris, later becoming the first student at Givaudan’s Perfumery School. In 1990, he co-founded the Osmothèque scent archive, and as Hermès’ in-house perfumer (2004-2016), created icons like Un Jardin sur le Nil, featured in Chandler Burr’s The Perfect Scent. Stay tuned as we explore the intersection of art, design, and fragrance, rethinking our bond with nature. 🌱

As a visiting professor of private law at the Cyber Policy Center and the head of the Program on Governance of Emerging Technologies, Florence G’Sell brings a critical perspective on how we can shape the future of AI. With France set to host the AI Action Summit in February 2025, discussions on AI governance are central to our nations. Effective regulation is key to ensuring AI serves the greater good, addressing societal challenges while promoting innovation across all countries. 🇺🇸🇫🇷
