People often ask us, "What kind of high-impact work do your members do while consulting?" As part of the d-fine Consultants for Impact internal working group, Sabine Matysik🔸, Felix Werdermann 🔸, and Cassandra Milbradt helped coordinate a partnership with Pour Demain, resulting in this critical and timely report. As flu season creeps up and experts monitor novel pandemic risks, we’re keen to learn how using far-UVC lights in indoor spaces can: 🦠 Reduce employee sick days 🛡️ Prevent airborne infections 💰 Offer cost-effective solutions for offices, restaurants, and waiting rooms When strategic consulting skills meet timely, critical global health challenges, remarkable outcomes emerge. Well done, team! #IndoorAirQuality #PandemicPrevention #ConsultantsForImpact #DFineImpact
Reducing indoor infections with far UVC-light offers substantial economic potential 💡 A recent analysis together with Pour Demain reveals the substantial potential of deploying far-UVC light technology in indoor settings to limit the spread of airborne diseases. Current research suggests that far-UVC light is capable of inactivating pathogens in a matter of minutes and could be applied to improve indoor air quality. It seems especially well suited for viruses like covid-19 or influenza. 🔹 Health Improvement: With better indoor air quality due to far-UVC, the number of sick days is significantly reduced. 🔹 Pandemic Preparedness: Implementing far-UVC diversifies the supply chains and response portfolio of available options to prevent airborne infections in a future pandemic. 🔹 Cost-Benefit Advantage: Investing in far-UVC lamps in spaces like restaurants, waiting rooms and offices delivers benefits that far exceed costs. The results of Sabine Matysik🔸, Bianca Bohmann and Laurent Bächler underscore the urgent need to enhance indoor air quality and safeguard public health. Together, let’s pave the way for safer, healthier indoor environments that boost community resilience against future health challenges. Please find the study “Reducing Indoor Infections: The Economic Potential” in the first comment ⬇️ For further details on their methodology, more in-depth results, context and limitations of the study, a longer version is available upon request. #dfine #dfineImpact #dfineInternational #PublicHealth #FarUVC #HealthInnovation #IndoorAirQuality

Just had an inspiring chat with Daisy Hao, Controller at GiveWell and former EY Audit Manager. 🌟 She gave us a window into her journey from the Big Four to one of the world's most transparent and impactful nonprofits, and we've pulled some highlights for you: ▶ Accounting at GiveWell is an extension of their value around transparency. The organization keeps a "mistakes blog" for others to learn from and discloses more than expected. ▶ Maximizing well-being per dollar spent requires us to be humble and challenge our assumptions. GiveWell is creating exploratory grants to evaluate an intervention before investing more. After talking to Daisy, we're reminded about what happens when a skill meets the problem that needs it most. (And we'll never view accounting the same way again)! #consultantsforimpact #careerstrategy #leadership #donationstrategy

🌟 Retreat Flashback: Exploring Consultant Paths to Impact with Friederike 🌟 Today we are revisiting Friederike Grosse-Holz’s insightful session from our recent retreat. With a dynamic career spanning biotech research, management consulting, venture capital, and most recently a transition into AI governance with the UK Civil Service at the AI Safety Institute, Friederike shared her invaluable perspective and the tools she’s used to inform her career decision-making process. Friederike made the case for adopting a scout mindset, championed by Julia Galef. Scout Mindset encourages us all to try and see the world for how it is and update our beliefs regularly when presented with new, compelling information. It may seem obvious, yet many of us struggle to let go of our beliefs (ex. working in government always means working at a slow pace). Friederike’s session was jampacked with useful guidance and anecdotes but one quote stood out to us as a hack for continuing to do the hard work of improving the world: wake up every day and tell yourself, “There is no such thing as failure. Either you win, or you learn” Stay tuned for more thought-provoking ideas and opportunities to make a difference with the EA Consulting Network! 💡
