Consumer Reports had the privilege of attending the 2024 U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Distraction Action Forum yesterday. Distracted driving remains a leading cause of thousands of fatal crashes and injuries each year. At the forum, we contributed to critical discussions as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) explores future updates, including the Visual-Manual Driver Distraction Guidelines for In-Vehicle Electronic Devices. A key takeaway was the strong call for clear, objective, and measurable guidelines to effectively test and mitigate distracted driving. To further this effort, CR Data Intelligence is convening a working group on September 24th to address distraction issues stemming from in-vehicle design. We’re bringing together industry participants to collaborate on solutions that enhance driver safety.
