Congratulations to our team at the Davenport Plant who were awarded the PCA Chaiman's Award for Safety yesterday. The award is for any Cement plant who achieves 1 year without a recordable injury. This is a great accomplishment and we are very proud for them to have received this award. The attendees who accepted the award are from left to right: Michael Hulsing, Kory Middagh, Gary Shaffer, and Josh Cambell.

This year for WIC week, NAWIC St. Louis Chapter #38 encouraged members to get involved by reading The House that She Built to local students.  These books were then gifted to the schools that we visited, funded by NAWIC and generous sponsors.  The House that She Built is based on a True Story of a project by the Utah Chapter of the NAHB Professional Women in Building where a team of 100 women from across the United States constructed a home to promote women in the trades and to show future generations that there are careers for them in construction.  This two-story, 3,200 square foot home was showcased in 2021.  Here is the website for the Project: The House That SHE Built | Www Utahpwb Com.  The authors were participants in this project and so inspired by the mission that they created this book to continue to share the story.  Along with the story, there are educational resources at their website, including engineering activities and lesson plans for all to use.  Educational Resources - She Built Books (thehousethatshebuilt.com) On Wednesday, I was able to join a local homeschool co-op group, HFC (Homeschoolers For Christ).  I read this story to the elementary students, had a conversation about women in construction, and provided some engineering activities, coloring pages, and Continental Cement swag (cups and bags).  I was also able to gift 2 copies of the book and provide their parents with the website so they can use the educational resources in their studies.  This was a fun and rewarding project…the students were very engaged and really enjoyed the book and hearing about the women professionals that built this home!  #NAWICSTL

Kindle Energy is constructing a $750 million electric generation plant in Plaquemine, LA (Iberville Parish) that can power more than 500,000 homes per year, the New Jersey-based company hired TIC Industrial (a Kiewit Company) to oversee the construction. The 700-megawatt Magnolia Power Generating Station will sit on 112 acres along the Mississippi River and will provide electricity to the 1803 Electric Cooperative, an alliance of Beauregard Electric Cooperative' Claiborne Electric Cooperative, Northeast Louisiana Power Cooperative, South Louisiana Electric Cooperative Association, and Washington-St. Tammany Electric Cooperative Inc. It is expected to start commercial operations in May 2025. Continental Cement provided close to 9,000 tons of Type 1L Cement to Ascension Quality Concrete for the project. Ascension Quality poured roughly 18,000 cuyds of 5,000 psi Grout for Auger Cast Foundation Pile and 12,000 cuyds of 4,500 psi concrete for the Pile Caps and Foundations. Ascension Quality was able to use two of our terminals (Union and Port Allen) during big pours which helped keep up with a very tight schedule.

I'm so proud to work with such a great and caring group of people at Continental Cement's Chesterfield office. We held a toy drive for Toys for Tots in conjunction with our holiday party and filled 5 boxes of toys! This team really always goes above and beyond to help others in our communities.
