Drs. Kislovskiy, Jarlenski, and their team looked at Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) access in rural versus urban pharmacies in Georgia and Pennsylvania. They found that pharmacies were unlikely to carry PrEP or PEP, with event less carrying in rural compared to urban. Addressing pharmacy barriers to PrEP/PEP may enhance access to HIV prevention for those living at high risk of HIV. https://lnkd.in/eXjhp_HR

Rural Medicaid enrollees living with HIV in the southern U.S. face challenges accessing care. In a study published in the Journal of Rural Health, researchers, including HPM's Lindsay Sabik found that rural enrollees with over 30 minutes of drive time had better retention in care. While urban residents saw little impact, rural patients had a 7% higher chance of staying in care with longer drives, highlighting geographic disparities in healthcare access and the importance of understanding these factors to improve retention strategies.
