Here’s some advice from business school professors for delivering feedback that’s both effective and constructive, and can foster a more positive and productive work environment. First tip: Keep your emotions out of it. Using emotionally neutral language, especially when giving negative feedback, helps employees stay focused on their tasks without getting sidetracked by what the feedback says about them personally. For example, instead of saying, “I’m disappointed with your sales numbers,” try a more neutral approach, like “The sales numbers are below the target we set. Let’s discuss some strategies for improvement.” https://lnkd.in/ghVVkhMG #boss #nationalbossday #leadership #review

A nonprofit news organization dedicated to unlocking knowledge and expertise from academia for the public.
About us
The Conversation US arose out of deep-seated concerns for the fading quality of our public discourse – and recognition of the vital role that academic experts can play in the public arena. Independent and not-for-profit, it is part of a global network of newsrooms first launched in Australia in 2011. The Conversation began its US operations in 2014, and now also publishes in Canada, the UK, France, Indonesia, Africa, Spain as well as Australia. The Conversation’s mission is particularly resonant in the U.S., where people universally sense that the country’s social fabric is strained and the common ground people share is shrinking. Information always has been essential to democracy – a societal good, like clean water. But many now find it difficult to put their trust in the media. And with little consensus about what to believe, it only becomes harder to reach agreement with fellow citizens regarding what’s truthful. The Conversation US seeks to be part of the solution to this problem. The Conversation’s editorial process is deliberate and collaborative. Editors pay close attention to the news environment to identify the issues citizens are concerned about. They reach out to leading scholars across academia and work with them to unlock their knowledge for the broad public. Through a Creative Commons license, we share Conversation US articles – at no charge to news organizations – across the geographic and ideological spectrum. We pay particular attention to strengthening news organizations that are severely under-resourced. The Associated Press distributes The Conversation US articles daily to thousands of newsrooms. Importantly, The Conversation US is committed to information transparency and credibility. Authors are only allowed to write on a subject on which they have proven expertise. They must sign a disclosure statement outlining any relevant funding or affiliations. We ourselves disclose all of The Conversation US’ funders on our homepage and elsewhere.

And unfortunately, these misconceptions have influenced public policy officials, economic development professionals and academics. As a result, they all tend to undervalue the important economic and social role that these businesses play. Fact #1: Poor people start businesses – lots of them. Another fact: The biggest challenge in new venture efforts isn’t just a lack of capital. https://buff.ly/4h0zUZw #Entrepreneurship #Entrepreneur #SmallBusiness

Mindfulness is gaining traction in the #business world. It’s called “financial mindfulness” and it is a reminder that emotions shouldn’t take over money decisions. To achieve it in your own life includes: 1. Building financial awareness by tracking and monitoring your spending habits. 2. Accepting your financial situation, even if your finances are not where you want them to be. 3. Learning about your money personality – your core beliefs about whether money can solve problems and what financial goals are most important to you. Consumers may enjoy reading funny or sarcastic online product reviews, but does it influence what they buy? While it’s likely that pseudo-reviews can increase sales in certain types of situations, such as buying on impulse, by enhancing amusement, it can hurt sales when a product requires more detailed evaluation (so all in all it really depends on the product). More about what Temple University researchers found about humorous reviews: https://buff.ly/3U0oOde #consumerbehavior #reviews #shopping #onlineshopping

The U.S. inflation rate dropped to 2.4% in September, marking the fourth straight month below 3%, and bringing the Fed closer to its 2% target. Here’s what that means for interest rates and the job market. https://buff.ly/3Yh9qeO #news #inflation #economy

Professor Veera Sundararaghavan shared insights with The Conversation US explaining the subfield of physics behind this year's Nobel Prize in Physics. This year's recipients John J. Hopfield and Geoffrey E. Hinton received the Nobel Prize on Oct. 8, 2024, for their research on machine learning algorithms and neural networks that help computers learn. Sundararaghavan stated, “As a computational materials scientist, I was excited to see this area of research recognized with the prize. Hopfield and Hinton’s work has allowed my colleagues and me to study a process called generative learning for materials sciences, a method that is behind many popular technologies like ChatGPT.” Read the full piece here: https://lnkd.in/ePrYV5NK #UMichAero
