We are dedicated to integrated, environmentally responsive architecture.
About us
COOKFOX Architects is a studio dedicated to a vision of integrated, environmentally responsive design. Guided by a passion for design excellence and a belief in the collaborative process, COOKFOX seeks select projects that fundamentally re-think how buildings interact with people and the natural environment. Starting with intensive research, we seek to understand each project in its environmental, cultural, and contemporary context, so that our work may engage with layers of time and a strong sense of place. Inspired by concepts such as biophilia, we are pursuing architecture that goes beyond LEED to restore, regenerate, and contribute to the urban environment.

Betances Residence, our 152-unit affordable and supportive housing project for at-risk seniors in the Bronx, NY, has been awarded a high commendation from the UIA - International Union of Architects 2030 Award jury. The UIA 2030 Award is a partnership with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in recognition of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Watch Bilyana Dimitrova's short documentary on the project here: https://lnkd.in/ePwH3CYZ At COOKFOX, we believe that housing justice is a human rights issue. Betances Residence supports the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 11, "Sustainable Cities and Communities," including Target 11.1, which addresses adequate, safe, and affordable housing. Betances Residence is located in the neighborhood of Mott Haven, nicknamed "asthma alley" due to its high frequency of chronic lung conditions. We worked hard with our client Breaking Ground (NYC Permanent Supportive Housing) to pursue Passive House certification, which not only maximizes energy efficiency but also ensures superior noise- and air quality-control. Safe and healthy design choices, as implemented at Betances Residence, unite social equity and technical innovation under one holistic umbrella of well-being. Choo-choo, all aboard! COOKFOX Partner and Minnesota Studio Lead Arno Adkins, AIA attended REjournals' 2024 Downtown Summit today, an annual event celebrating Minneapolis real estate. This year, the summit was held at Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot, a repurposed nineteenth-century train shed. Underneath this long-span trussed roof, the past and future of downtown real estate all came together. Preservation—especially the open-ended preservation of industrial architecture—is a topic our studio has explored across our portfolio, and today's summit was a perfect reminder of why history continues to resonate in our work.
