In the early 1970s, a lock manufacturer reached out to CoorsTek to design and create a ceramic insert for their lock bolts. Ceramic is next to diamond in hardness, so a bolt with a ceramic center is virtually impossible to saw through. The lock and insert were tested by Scotland Yard, and when they were unsuccessful in cutting through, they gave it their stamp of approval! Although CoorsTek no longer manufactures ceramic lock inserts, we continue to work closely with our customers to take their ideas from concept to creation. #tbt #TechnicalCeramics

For one Wednesday each month, we dedicate our social media posts to a particular product, service, or innovation made possible through the enabling capabilities of technical ceramics. For today’s “We Enable Wednesday” we will focus on power at the pump! While filling up your tank with gasoline or diesel fuel, you may not immediately consider the complex upstream, midstream, and downstream processes required to deliver fuel to your local station. But technical ceramics are crucial to many of the steps involved. From mechanical seal components to pulsation dampeners and directional drilling components, we enable oil and gas suppliers to meet tighter emissions regulations while delivering fuel safely and reliably. As a global company, our approach to sustainability is managed at both the corporate and local levels. With locations across multiple continents serving a vast array of industries, we focus on implementing the most effective programs and technologies to reduce environmental impact across our supply chain. Working in conjunction with our individual manufacturing locations, our corporate supply chain team negotiated a contract with an innovative national pallet recycler. This pallet recycler and their partners now recycle all the pallets from our Colorado plants, as well as some from our Benton, Arkansas and Hillsboro, Oregon USA plants. Since we started working with this vendor in 2022, we’ve recycled over 2,800 pallets. In 2022, we disposed of 182 tons of wood. Going forward we will avoid sending comparable amounts to landfills. According to U.S. News & World Report, 28% of hip replacements are now performed on men and women who are aged 55 or younger. And by 2030, it is projected that over 52% of total hip arthroplasty surgeries will be performed on patients under the age of 65. With new surgical techniques that require less need to cut muscles and tendons, younger patients are able to undergo the procedure in an outpatient setting. Another factor allowing younger patients to undergo the surgery is the increased longevity of the hip implant system. According to a study by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, only 1% of patients under the age of 55 have undergone a surgical revision. Read more at https://lnkd.in/geb36RpY Femoral heads manufactured from Permallon® orthopaedic ceramics for total hip arthroplasty are a key components of a total hip replacement system. In September, our global CoorsTek family came together once again for our annual Families for Families (F4F) fundraising campaign, and we couldn't be more proud. This campaign is one way we live out our value: We provide outstanding value for our customers, teammates, families, communities, and world. In Gumi, South Korea the F4F tradition continues to be strong, and this year was extra special with the largest donation turnout yet! The star of the show? A homemade matsutake mushroom-infused liquor, crafted by one of our team member’s fathers! It was the most competitive (and delicious) item we’ve seen so far. Fundraising in Hillsboro Oregon got creative with a Poker Walk and Bingo. It was a day full of fun and excitement, all for a great cause. At our facilities across the globe annual bake sales were held and they were all a sweet success, thanks to everyone who contributed—whether by donating a baked good or buying one. Your support made a big difference! A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated and helped make a lasting impact in our communities. Together, we are making a difference! #FamiliesForFamilies #CommunityCare #OutstandingValue #CoorsTek
