There's a common misconception when it comes to "being responsible" & saving for the future. In your early life, you've got a lot of health. But you need to sacrifice really important experiences so that you can save & invest "a lot". Then later in life, one day, you'll get to spend that money. The dream house. The dream car. The dream vacations. "Retirement". You stop saving & you start spending. But -as many wise people note- there's no guarantee you'll still be healthy enough for your dream mountaineering vacation! Here's the good news: REAL FINANCIAL PLANNING BALANCES DOING THE RIGHT THING (for the future) WITH DOING THE FUN THING (today). It's about making INTENTIONAL decisions to live the best possible life!

so we don't put our focus on production numbers, Quotas, # of dials, KPIs, OKRs, WTFs, or any other silly managerial LMAOs. What we really care about: Did we make just one meaningful connection? Did we help someone feel more organized around their money? Can we repeat that process to help others? Cool, let's do more of that.

Why was the Dow up today (or down), where will energy stocks be tomorrow, or where’s the market heading next week? We don’t know. No one knows. What we DO know is that the market represents the collective human opinion as to how companies are expected to create and distribute future value. Over the long term, creative people working at innovative companies tend to solve interesting problems. Humans have a long history of solving things. Value is created when those interesting problems are solved, and there are still plenty of problems in the world yet to be solved. Those are opportunities for future value creation. That's generally a good thing.

I know it's hard to not have free access to your money in accounts like IRA and 401(k)s as easily as brokerage accounts, but I genuinely believe it’s a powerful behavioral tool to help save for retirement. Being able to access your money too easily is like going downhill—it’s much harder to build it back up once it’s taken out. The barriers, such as penalties for early withdrawal, are like resistance on the way down that forces you to slow your decision-making. This can help prevent impulsive choices and keep your retirement goals intact. In fact, the concept of 'mental accounting' from behavioral psychology suggests that when we perceive money as harder to reach, we’re less likely to spend it impulsively. By keeping retirement funds less accessible, you're essentially creating a buffer between short-term wants and long-term security, making it easier to stay on track for a better financial future.

HSAs should NOT just be a wealth accumulation tool. So many people are obsessed with maxing out their HSAs, laser-focused on building a nest egg big enough to cover every future medical and long-term care cost possible. But here’s the kicker: in the process, they often neglect their current selves, especially when it comes to health and wellness. I’ve seen six-figure HSA balances owned by individuals who won’t spend a dime on preventive care because they think they don’t “need it”. If the goal of your HSA is to mitigate future healthcare costs, why not think about investing in your health now to prevent those costs from even happening down the line? Help your future self by prioritizing your current self. I’d love to see people take a portion of their HSA contributions and spend it on their health today (and if finances allow, max out that HSA and pay for preventive care out of pocket). - Get bloodwork done - Pay for a cancer screening - Meet with a therapist - Do a diabetes screening - Buy a massage gun What’s the point of building a financial future if you won’t be able to enjoy it? Investing in your health today can yield a better return than the investments in your HSA. A fat HSA won’t do you any good if you can’t live the life you’ve been working so hard for. Health is the ultimate wealth! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Note: This post is for educational purposes only and not financial advice.
