We love our "snow day" communications system in the Corn Belt. We not only use it on "snow days" but we use it to effectively communicate everything the Corn Belt Ports does for our Riverfront Communities all year long. That is why our Corn Belt Ports communication system has been so successful. The Corn Belt Ports meeting in Burlington, IA will now take place on the 18th of March. Hope to see you there. We appreciate the leadership of our mayors. Mayors do get things done. Senator Duckworth had a bout with walking pneumonia. We are all wishing her a speedy recovery, and respect her concern for our health, while still taking the time to meet with us. We appreciate how much the U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives from Iowa are always interested in supply chain infrastructure, and we are very much the beneficiaries of their leadership in DC. Rural development is obviously important to them. WCI recently hosted a wonderful DC Fly-In like they do every year. We were lucky to have Jeremy Putman (Riverview Services), Emily Upchurch Callison (Iowa Corn Growers), and Anshu Singh, Ph.D. (Corn Belt Ports) represent the collective us to Iowa. Senator Chuck Grassley is on the Senate Budget Committee and Senate Agriculture Committee, a couple of our favorites. Senator Joni Ernst serves on the Armed Services and Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry committees, and she founded the Senate DOGE Caucus. We look forward to working with her office on many things in the future. Representative Ashley Hinson serves on the important Appropriations Committee. Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee which has many intersections with us. Congressman Zach Nunn is on the House Agriculture Committee. Congressman Randy Feenstra serves on the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Agriculture Committee. Everyone realizes the importance and significance of both the national network of waterways; and the modern, sustainable, rural, regional, multi-modal, inland port system in the Heart of the Corn Belt. Iowa’s bridges are a critical part of the national and global supply chain transportation infrastructure. Transportation infrastructure in the Heart of the Corn Belt being identified as worst in the nation is not an ideal place to be. Locks on the Upper Mississippi River (Marine Highway 35) are bridges between navigation pools and are a strategic part of the supply chain infrastructure, also. The locks and dams on the Upper Mississippi River that enable Iowa to get its agriculture products to global markets have about $2 Billion in deferred maintenance items (often referred to as operations and maintenance backlog). Looking forward to addressing supply chain infrastructure needs as an integrated national system. https://lnkd.in/gZ_49rvt
