Where the Exit Doers Gather . . . Next week the International Exit Planning Association ("IEPA") will have our 15th Annual Exit Planning Conference in Boston. At the IEPA, we have embraced the slogan - "Exit Doers, Not Exit Talkers". Sixteen years ago, when the Certified Business Exit Consultant (CBEC) committee gathered, we felt strongly that a certification in exit planning should signal to a business owner that the person who held that designation actually does exit planning. To adhere to this relatively high standard, every advisor / consultant who holds the CBEC designation has completed an exit plan for a business owner, submitted that plan to the IEPA for peer review, and had a one-on-one interview with the IEPA staff to discuss the planning engagement. What we learned over +15 years is that once an advisor experiences the delivery of an exit plan and sees the dramatic impact that the planning process has on the business owner client, that advisors' confidence grows exponentially and they do more and more exit plans, at higher fee levels to better reflect the value that they are delivering to the marketplace. So once a year we gather as a group of Exit Doers to 'sharpen our saws', network with our peers and take steps towards further advancing this awesome, transformative industry.
