CPB Board Chair Calvert Ruby spoke with former The Washington Post Executive Editor Martin Baron Monday night at a CPB Board dinner in Washington, D.C. They discussed the role of a free press in a democratic society, the importance of local journalism, and how public media stations are serving their communities and the country with trusted news and information.

CPB announced a grant support of $2.65 million to increase and strengthen state government coverage provided by public media in Colorado, Florida, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, and North Carolina. The app, Florida Storms, provides geotargeted live forecasts, information about evacuation routes and shelters, and live streams local public radio broadcasts. The Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), the steward of the federal government’s investment in public broadcasting, today unanimously elected Rubydee Calvert Ruby of Wyoming as chair and Laura Ross of New York as vice chair. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) awarded a $359,600 grant to public media distributor PRX for a pilot that will enable free access to Dovetail for 30 public media stations. Dovetail is PRX’s digital platform that currently supports hundreds of podcasts, including more than 150 from stations nationwide. Public media stations that participate in the pilot will test Dovetail’s impact on audience engagement and station revenue. https://lnkd.in/ezTqcJwS
