Willis ISD Names Kimberley James Lone Finalist for Superintendent of Schools Dr. James is the Deputy Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction for Corpus Christi ISD, a district with a student enrollment of 33,107 students, a role she has held since 2021. Before that she was the Chief of Staff and a high school principal in Corpus Christi. Dr. James has also served as a special education teacher, dance team director, assistant principal and principal at all secondary levels in Humble ISD, Aldine ISD and Aransas County ISD. With more than three decades in public education, Dr. James brings significant experience in curriculum design, professional development and school leadership. Among her many highlights, Dr. James is a turnaround principal known for improving instructional outcomes and developing academic systems focused on students' individual needs while also specializing in the development of strong employee teams and fostering parent involvement. “I am thrilled for the opportunity to serve as superintendent of Willis ISD and to partner with the employees, parents and community as we soar to new heights and uncover new horizons,” said Dr. James. “Joining a community that values family, children and faith as much as I do is a dream come true for me.” Community engagement is a top priority for Dr. James, and she plans to spend her first 30 days on the job meeting with community stakeholders, central administration, campus leadership, teachers and staff. Dr. James will also hold townhall meetings with parents and the community. “As a board, we have been committed to finding the absolute best candidate to serve as superintendent of Willis ISD,” said board president Kyle Hoegemeyer. “During surveys and focus groups, we heard from our community that you wanted a leader who is strong in academics and focused on parent and community relations. Dr. James is student-centered, visionary and innovative. She is a committed ambassador for public education, and we could not be more excited to welcome her with open arms.” Dr. James holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, a Master's degree in education administration from Stephen F. Austin University and a bachelor’s degree in Education from Southwest Texas State University. After a 21-day state-required waiting period, Dr. James will officially report to Willis ISD as its next Superintendent.
