Cotton growers across the globe rely on natural rainfall to give their crops the water they need. In the U.S., about two-thirds of the cotton crop is produced without irrigation. Most irrigation used for the remaining one-third supplements crop needs when there is insufficient rainfall. In fact, over the last 40 years, the amount of irrigation water used by #cotton in the United States has decreased while yields have increased. The majority of home goods shoppers only buys 100 percent cotton bedding, sheeting and bath products, according to the Cotton Incorporated 2024 Global Home Textiles Survey. That’s in line with research that shows most consumers consider cotton products offer the highest quality. The data also shows the majority of consumers (84%) are willing to pay a little more money to get higher quality products. Manufacturers like Brooklinen, Piglet in Bed, and Marigold Living recognize this and say they want to give consumers the best experience with their products. Earlier today, Cotton Incorporated’s Kim Kitchings (Senior Vice President, Consumer Marketing) and Melissa Bastos (Director, Corporate Strategy & Insights) joined Peter Sadera (Editor-in-Chief, Sourcing Journal) at the annual SJ Sustainability Summit in a panel discussion, “The Consumer Disconnect.” The panel touched upon what consumers say about their sustainable actions and purchase drivers, as well as what sustainability claims consumers understand and trust, and what messaging misses the mark. Cotton Incorporated also served as one of the sponsors of the all-day event in New York City. #SourcingJournal #CottonIncorporated #SJSummits

Today is National Ag Day. In the agricultural industry, land is the livelihood for cotton growers across the world. Preserving land so that it can continue to efficiently produce cotton for generations to come has always been a priority for cotton growers. Increasing land use efficiency has been made possible by using higher-yielding cotton varieties and modern agriculture farming practices. Wide adoption of conservation practices such as cover crops, windbreaks, contour farming, and conservation tillage also contributed to protecting agricultural land. Trends in the home décor market change each season but one thing that remains timeless is the consumer preference for natural fibers, particularly cotton. This goes for bedding, throws, towels, and more. Why? Shoppers consider cotton products the most comfortable, most reliable, softest and longest lasting, according to the Cotton Incorporated 2024 Global Home Textiles Survey. Luckily for consumers, there are a number of makers – both large and indie – who appreciate cotton as much as their customers do. To read more about this home textiles preference, check out this week’s Lifestyle Monitor™ column. https://lnkd.in/e7uhEnNH #CottonIncorporated #LifestyleMonitor #cotton #bedding #bath #hometextiles
