Innovative curricula for teaching introductory statistics and data science in colleges, universities, and high schools.
About us
CourseKata builds online interactive textbooks and then continuously improves them based on student data, while at the same time exploring hypotheses about how students learn things that are hard to learn - i.e., in complex domains where learning takes place over extended periods of time. CourseKata's current focus is teaching statistics and data analytics.

New study by Jose Salas, @xinran-wang-80293b195, and @mctuck shows that students who believe learning requires a lot of memorization tend to perform worse in introductory statistics in @californiacommunitycolleges, @calstate, and @university-of-california! Because researchers were collecting data in @coursekata before and after the COVID19 pandemic, this unique study documented this predictive relationship in both face-to-face and remote instruction (when a lot of instructors allowed for open-textbook exams). Exciting news from CourseKata and UVA's Motivate Lab! Over a 10-week intro stats course, we intensively measured students' beliefs about their ability to succeed and the value of the course. This study revealed that these beliefs are highly dynamic and shaped by the learning context. Notably, motivation experienced within specific chapters (i.e., situational motivation) more strongly predicted performance for students from racially marginalized groups than for non-racially marginalized groups. These findings emphasize the importance of designing context-relevant interventions to create equitable and supportive learning environments for all students. #Education #Equity #Motivation #Statistics #EdResearch https://hubs.ly/Q02KwCgP0
