Great leaders make kindness a genuine act, not a strategic influence. Authentic kindness strengthens a leader's credibility. Research shows that leaders' acts of kindness ✅️ improve the workplace atmosphere ✅️ contribute to overall team success ✅️ enhance well-being of the team ✅️ keep more people retained Here is how great leaders show kindness to make a positive impact: ➡️ Active Listening Truly listening to employees' concerns and ideas can make them feel valued and understood. ➡️ Expressing Gratitude Regularly acknowledging and appreciating employees' efforts can boost morale and motivation. ➡️ Providing Constructive Feedback Offering feedback that is both positive and constructive helps employees grow and feel supported. ➡️ Show Empathy Demonstrating empathy by understanding and sharing the feelings of others can strengthen relationships and foster a supportive work environment. ➡️ Encouraging Work-Life Balance Supporting employees in maintaining a healthy work-life balance can reduce stress and burnout. ➡️ Mentorship and Development Investing time in mentoring and developing employees' skills shows a commitment to their growth. ➡️ Acts of Service Small acts of service, such as helping with a task or providing resources, can demonstrate care and support. ➡️ Creating a Positive Work Environment Cultivating a positive and inclusive workplace culture can enhance employee engagement and reduce turnover. ➡️ Transparent Communication Being open and honest in communication builds trust and reduces uncertainty. ➡️ Celebrating Successes Recognizing and celebrating both individual and team achievements can boost morale and foster a sense of accomplishment. Remember: having a positive impact is a choice that every leader can make in every moment. PS. Which of these acts do you think would be most impactful in your workplace? ------------------------ ♻️ Repost this to help leaders in your network! 🔔Follow me (Simon Koerner) for more.

The focus on pay equity has grown in recent years, with more companies announcing programs to close the gender gap.  But achieving true gender parity—equal representation of men and women at all organizational levels—is still a long way off. At least 50 years, according to a sobering “Women in the Workplace 2024” report from McKinsey & Company and LeanIn. "The slow pace of change tells us we need to broaden our understanding of equity beyond money alone," Great Place To Work US Senior Content Director Roula Amire writes in a new commentary piece. Great Place To Work US CEO Michael C. Bush added: “Fair pay, promotions, and unbiased hiring matter, but they are just the baseline, the bare minimum for building equitable workplaces." What's worse than keeping employees on the job during a natural disaster? How about doing that, knowing full well how dangerous the situation is—and sneaking out yourself before things hit the fan? Impact Plastics and its CEO, Gerald O'Connor, seem to have written the playbook on reckless disregard for human life. The company and its fearless leader have now been sued by the family of Johnny Peterson, one of their employees tragically killed during the floods caused by Hurricane Helene. According to the lawsuit, management allegedly forced workers to stay at the plant, ignoring the increasingly dangerous conditions. While businesses around them shut down and sent employees home, Impact Plastics thought it was a great time to keep their team on the clock. And when did they finally decide to send workers home? After the parking lot flooded, power was lost, and the full brunt of the storm was bearing down on them. Too little, too late. Johnny Peterson was one of 11 employees caught in the floodwaters. Five were eventually rescued, but six—including Johnny—didn’t make it home. One remains missing while the bodies of the other five have been recovered. And just when you thought this story couldn’t get worse—rumor has it that while CEO Gerald O’Connor kept his employees pinned to their posts, he quietly slipped out of the plant before conditions became catastrophic. Here's the kicker: The lawsuit alleges that Impact Plastics, located in a known flood zone, had no emergency action plan. Zero. Nada. But hey, gotta meet those order deadlines, right? For its part, Impact Plastics claims that it posted such plans around the plant months prior to the storm. O'Connor also says, "Employees were not told at any time that they would be fired if they left the plant." To sum up: Prioritizing production over people? Check. No safety plan in place? Check. Leaving employees behind to face a deadly flood? Check. Impact Plastics: Congratulations! You've earned your place as a nominee for the Worst Employer of 2024. You fled. Your workers stayed—and six never made it home.

Keynote Speaking | Writing | Webinars | ChatGPT for HR | Improv Comedy | If you want to know how to be a better HR leader, you've come to the right place.

Who is really rejecting your resume? Here's my hot take: Recruiters regularly mock people who say that you need to optimize your resume for the ATS. The ATS does not reject your resume, they say. But it does. Anyone who has ever applied for a job and gotten rejected within 30 seconds knows no human has looked at their resume. Yes, the recruiter technically rejected them by putting in the criteria, but that doesn't mean that optimizing your resume for the ATS is dumb. And it doesn't mean that you don't need to beat the bots. Because you do. I was at UNLEASH last work and vendor after vendor touted how their ATS was better because it used AI to help with recruiting. You and I both know the AI would be rejecting and recommending candidates, not making coffee for the overworked recruiter. Let's talk about it. Over at ERE, I share the story of an ATS who autorejected based on a recruiter's sabotage. Read it for the drama and then come share your thoughts. https://lnkd.in/e6kxsvAh

"In May 2023, the N.C. Chamber Foundation published a survey that found more than a quarter of parents of kids 5 years old and younger had left the workforce because they couldn’t find affordable child care. Nationally, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data show 47,000 people missed work last year due to child care problems, compared to 33,000 people in 2019." https://lnkd.in/exKNq-Nu

"Immigrant workers will be the only source of U.S. labor force growth in the economy after 2052, according to new research by the National Foundation For American Policy. Long before then, this report states the number of Americans of prime working age will stagnate. The findings represent the latest evidence that U.S. economic growth and living standards will languish without immigrant workers entering the U.S. labor force." https://lnkd.in/gNi4S3zx
