The Detroit Tigers’ American League Wild Card round sweep of the Houston Astros means Comerica Park will see its first home playoff game in a decade — with neighboring bars and restaurants hosting the party. Game 1 of Detroit’s best-of-5 series with the Cleveland Guardians is set for 1 p.m. Oct. 5. Game 2 is slated for 4 p.m. Oct. 7. The Tigers would come home for Game 3 on Oct. 9. And Game 4, if necessary, would also be played at home Oct. 10 in Detroit. The Tigers' last playoff series win came in 2013, when the team advanced to the AL Championship Series. Detroit’s last World Series appearance came in 2012, when the team was swept by San Francisco in four games. This year’s playoff run, even with the team on the road, has given a bump to some neighboring businesses. Firebird Tavern co-owner Tony Piraino on Wednesday said the Tigers' two home series last week to end the regular season gave his restaurant and bar an atmosphere it hasn’t seen this time of year since the last time the Tigers made the playoffs. “The whole week was great. Not only was it noticeable in terms of our numbers. It was evident on the street,” Piraino said. “There was so much activity. It’s really aesthetically pleasing with the area busy like it’s been the last week or so.” Mootz Pizzeria and Bar is a few blocks away from Comerica Park. Co-owner Lisa Walters said the combination of the Lions’ strong start and the Tigers' turnaround has been unbelievable. “The pulse of the city is contagious,” Walters said. “Sometimes it’s hard to put into words the feeling you get when you’re downtown with all the people and fans.” Read more from Jay Davis: https://lnkd.in/gjmT_PKM
