I’m excited to announce the successful completion of my 6-month co-op at Criterion Labs Inc.! I want to express my deepest gratitude to Adam Weltz, our CEO, for his inspiring leadership, and to our Lab Director Andrew Schwab for his constant guidance and support. A special shoutout to my amazing coworkers Collin Marrs, Michael Hess, Kyla Ford, Sarah Kleinbrahm and Craig Hudson, who made every day at the lab a great learning experience. And a special shoutout to Lauren Mitchell, our Lab Coordinator, and my fellow intern Alessio Gianni! During this co-op, I discovered my love for microbiology—something I had no past experience with! I primarily worked on Legionella, along with Coliform and Heterotrophic Plate Count (HPC) analyses. Additionally, I gained valuable experience in Lead Wipes and Total Organic Carbon (TOC) testing. I also learned the basics of Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM), adding a new dimension to my skill set. In addition to these technical skills, I improved my time management, enabling me to process over 100 samples of Legionella, HPC, or lead in a single day. I also focused on collaborating effectively with my team, recognizing individual strengths, and helping to delegate tasks in a way that enhanced our productivity and allowed us to tackle complex projects more smoothly. The knowledge and experience I’ve gained have been invaluable, and I’m excited to apply these skills in future endeavors. Thank you Criterion Labs Inc., for this incredible opportunity! Here’s to the next chapter!

Criterion Labs commends the EPA for their work to prevent further PFAS contamination. We’re proud to be a PFAS testing partner via our participation in the EPA UCMR 5 program.
We’re finalizing a rule that prevents companies from starting or resuming the manufacture or processing of 329 PFAS that have not been made or used for many years without a complete EPA review and risk determination. In the past, these chemicals may have been used in many industries in a variety of ways, including as binding agents, surfactants, in the production of sealants and gaskets, and may also have been released into the environment. Without this rule, companies could have resumed uses of these PFAS absent notification to and review by EPA. We’re using every tool at our disposal to protect people from PFAS. https://lnkd.in/eMYhfVw4
