Fast-growing restaurants often try to handle HR internally, but as Heather Bischoff explains in our latest podcast, this can lead to costly mistakes—especially regarding workers’ compensation claims. A lack of proper training or oversight can quickly escalate into claims and litigation that could have been avoided with expert HR management. 💡 One answer is fractional HR - a practical solution for scaling restaurants. Fractional HR offers growing restaurants the expertise they need without the cost of a full-time team. 🎧 Listen here: https://lnkd.in/gBJtcHAx 💻 Watch here: https://lnkd.in/gPQChXPU #WorkersComp #RiskManagement #CRMBC #SelfInsurance #WorkersCompensation #FractionalHR

Uncovering Workers' Comp Fraud: Insights from Investigator Gene Immendorf CRMBC's Self-Insurance Podcast recently spoke with private investigator Gene Immendorf on uncovering potential fraud in workers' compensation claims. Gene shared two key insights: The Power of Comprehensive Surveillance: Effective claims investigation requires thorough surveillance, ideally spanning multiple days. A rushed process can overlook critical evidence, leading to inconsistencies in a claimant's narrative. The Value of Verbal Communication: Verbal exchanges can yield richer insights than emails. Gene noted that quick phone calls with adjusters or employers could uncover red flags that written communication might miss, ultimately leading to a more successful investigation. Are You Prepared? How Self-Insurance Can Safeguard Your Restaurant Against Workers’ Compensation Claims Managing workers’ compensation claims has become critical as restaurant owners grapple with rising operational costs and labor shortages. Our recent discussion with industry expert Mike McDonough, SIP, revealed two pressing issues: ⚕ Addressing Continuous Trauma Claims: Did you know that 38% of workers' compensation claims in California relate to continuous trauma? This issue allows employees to file claims for injuries that develop over time, leading to increased litigation costs. Establishing a solid safety culture and encouraging proactive injury reporting can significantly mitigate this risk. 💲 Managing Catastrophic Claims Costs: The hospitality industry is witnessing a 91% rise in catastrophic claims exceeding $2 million. While advancements in medical technology save lives, they also contribute to higher long-term care expenses. Restaurant operators must implement robust safety measures and risk management strategies to protect their bottom line. 💻 Read more from Mike here: https://lnkd.in/g_4fzATs #WorkersCompensation #CaliforniaRestaurants #SafetyCulture #RiskManagement #ContinuousTrauma #CatastrophicClaims #CRMBC #SelfInsurance

Actuarial study confirms self-insured employers save 14% to 28% more than with traditional workers’ compensation insurance. The California Self-Insurer's Security Fund (CASISF) commissioned a study which compares the overall cost of self-insurance versus traditional workers' compensation insurance. The study examined 14 California self-insured employers across a variety of industries and found under self-insurance, employers saved from 14% up to 28% more than with typical #workcomp #insurance. The average savings for all self-insured employers in the study was #21% . This means on average 21 cents of every dollar an employer spends on #workerscompensation can be saved and would drop straight to the bottom line. For more information about becoming self-insured or the study, call us at 510-879-6035, or by email at membership@securityfund.org . “We are California Workers’ Comp Experts” with an exclusive focus on self-insurance. ❓ Is Your Workers' Comp Strategy Truly Working for You ❓ Restaurant owners often face hidden risks with traditional commercial insurance. In our latest podcast, Scott W. Gaffner, CRM,CIC, #CRMBC’s Chief Underwriting Officer, shares why self-insured groups offer a smarter, more tailored approach to managing workers' comp. 💡 The Flexibility of Self-Insurance: “We underwrite to the current situation,” Scott explains. Unlike traditional insurers, CRMBC evaluates operations in real time rather than relying solely on historical data like the X-mod. This gives restaurant owners more control over their claims and reduces unnecessary penalties. ⚠ The Danger of Low Premiums: Don't be fooled by commercial insurers offering low upfront rates. "If we feel like we're just writing a check and not responsible for anything, we could get lost in that cycle… and now the effect is going to come up and bite me." 📺 Watch here: https://lnkd.in/gmeXMeVv 🎧 Listen here: https://lnkd.in/gfezSmXx #SelfInsurance #RestaurantOwners #WorkersComp #RiskManagement #InsuranceInsights #CRMBC
