This week Dr. Amy Goddard, Research and Technology Manager, was invited to give a talk at the Royal Society of Chemistry, at their first Annual Summit focused on Sustainable Polymers in Liquid Formulations. Dr Goddard tells us: "This was a brilliant opportunity to showcase our developments in the area of sustainable polymers, and highlight successes of our joint collaboration with the University of Nottingham and the University of York.”

Croda Pharma has been awarded a grant through the New Jersey Innovation and Research Fellowship Program (IRFP). This two-year grant will support a Ph.D. Fellow conducting key research in Drug Delivery, driving innovation for the Life Sciences industry. At Croda, we believe that biotechnology is an exciting field of science that offers new possibilities for creating sustainable ingredients from biological feedstocks. This approach has the potential to replace traditional chemical manufacturing processes or petrochemical-based feedstocks. Across our five specialist biotechnology labs — Nautilus in Canada, IRB in Italy, Sederma in France, and Daresbury in the UK — along with our Ditton manufacturing site, we bring together a specialist set of skills and knowledge in the field of biotechnology. One example of how we’re driving sustainability through biotechnology is at our Atlas Point site in the US, where we produce bio-based surfactants using biobased ethanol instead of petrochemical feedstocks. This process helps companies seeking more sustainable, biobased alternatives in the surfactants supply chain for products like detergents, dyes, and cosmetics. On 29 August, Croda Singapore participated in the SCIC Sustainability Conference, themed “Reimagining Manufacturing for a Sustainable Future.” Our Lead Process Engineer, Ms. Xiuhui Zhang, and Operations Manager, Mr. Soon Meng Teo, presented our decarbonisation strategy focused on reducing carbon emissions and aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Ms. Zhang shared Croda’s sustainability vision, highlighting our commitment to the UN SDG, Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy. She showcased key energy-saving initiatives at our Singapore site, including the Seraya Heat Recovery Project (SHARP), solar panel installations, and advanced waste management technologies — all designed to reduce carbon emissions and enhance efficiency. Mr. Teo detailed how SHARP enhances energy efficiency by utilising surplus heat. Commenting on this conference, Babu Alagappan, Managing Director mentioned Croda Singapore is focused on ‘safe, responsible, and sustainable manufacturing processes to create a greener future’.
