Testimony Time: I struggled if I was going to share this so soon, but maybe it will help someone else. I applied and went to The PhD Project conference in Chicago in November 2005. My goal was to get my PhD by 30. It was a lofty goal, that I quickly realized I was not ready for during the conference. In 2008, I applied for the PhD in Business at the University of Arkansas. The program was fully funded and only accepted 5 students a year. I was student 6. On May 23, 2008, I emailed the head of the program asking if there were any cancellations, as all of the 5 candidates who got in were from another country, and the previous year, due to paperwork issues, the program was a ‘cohort’ of 1. For the Fall of 2008, all 5 candidates accepted and got to campus early. I moved to Washington, DC, in 2011. One of the main reasons I moved was because I wanted to attend The George Washington University PhD program in Business. I started looking at the program in 2009. Well, life happened and I started working. I put the PhD on the back burner, but never stop thinking about it. The program I wanted to attend is no longer active. Fast forward to this year. I started my application to University of the District of Columbia PhD program in Urban Leadership & Entrepreneurship, but initially didn’t finish it, I finally submitted my completed application…and said if it’s for me, it will happen. Well, this Fall, I will be starting the journey to PhD!!! #delayedbutnotdenied
