About us

CrossWinds Counseling & Wellness is a non-profit organization, serving the residents of East Central Kansas since 1960. We are the area's only comprehensive mental health agency that helps people of all ages achieve wellness. CrossWinds is licensed by the State of Kansas as a community mental health center (CMHC) and as a certified substance abuse safety action program. Our mission is to provide dynamic, culturally sensitive, high-quality behavioral health care to residents of Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Lyon, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties in the most effective, caring and efficient manner. CrossWinds currently employs 240 people including psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, psychologists, professional counselors, case managers, attendant care workers, and peer support specialists who focus on child, adolescent, adult and geriatric behavioral healthcare.

This comprehensive training offers a nuanced exploration of self-harm behaviors and provides practical strategies to effectively support individuals without suicidal intent. This interactive session delves into the complexities surrounding self-harm, equipping attendees with invaluable knowledge and tools to navigate these sensitive situations with empathy and proficiency. Attendees will receive a transformative journey to deepen clinical skills and confidence in assisting clients navigating self-harm experiences without suicidal ideation. Objectives: Gain a comprehensive understanding of self-harm: its underlying causes, motivations, and behavioral patterns. Develop effective assessment techniques to differentiate between self-harm and suicidal ideation.   • Youth Mental Health First Aid Monday, January 20 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Sign up at https://lnkd.in/geKfWW7A Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including ADHD), and eating disorders. The majority of this training will be in-person but also includes approximately 2 hours of online prework, which must be completed prior to attending the live event. Several weeks before the event, you'll receive an email with instructions on how to register for the MHFA's online portal, where you can complete the prework. Location: Emporia

Objectives: -Define the key characteristics and diagnostic criteria associated with ADHD and Neurocognitive disorders. -Understand the impact of ADHD and Neurocognitive disorders on cognitive functions and daily life activities. -Demonstrate an understanding of assessment methods and interventions commonly used in the management of ADHD and Neurocognitive disorders. -Evaluate the potential challenges and stigmas individuals with ADHD and other Neurocognitive disorders may face, considering societal perspectives and implications for support and inclusion.
