  • Crowd Operations Dynamix was honored this week to serve the training needs of the Western Connecticut Chiefs of Police Association in their desire to train their agency personnel in the mobile field force aspect of public order policing. Hosted by Watertown PD, thirty officers representing nine agencies participated in two days of intensive classroom and team movements to prepare to handle unruly crowds. Each participant is now better prepared to handle an unruly crowd event while protecting the public's 1st Amendment rights. If your agency seeks this type of training, reach out to Crowd Operations Dynamix to see what we can offer.

  • "It’s clear from the after-action reports on the George Floyd protests and riots of 2020 that many agencies were not prepared for the explosion of unrest that rocked the country. Some did not have the training; some did not have the equipment, and some did not have either." The above is just one take-away from an article in Police Magazine which summarized the report produced by the Major Cities Chiefs Association on the 2020 protests across the U.S. and Canada. The April 2021 article by David Griffith provides a great summary on key points of the report including statistics on numbers of protests, numbers of arrests, numbers of officers injured and more. We may be headed into another season of unrest as the presidential election nears, and conflict in the Middle East continues. Is your agency ready? Let Crowd Operations Dynamix help your agency prepare for potential unrest in your community with our outstanding training delivered by experienced personnel. The article ends with the admonition, "Now is the time for agencies to review their policies, train their officers, and inventory riot gear." • Protesters are already threatening campus disruption for fall — and schools look unprepared That is the headline in the July 31st article by Rikki Schlott in the NY Post. It's clear activists are gearing up for more campus protests this fall. Police agencies are running out of time to properly train for these events. • This morning, members of my former SERT command, along with other State Police, Boston, Suffolk County Sheriffs, and Northeastern University officers, broke up the Pro-Palestine encampment on NU's campus. This was a text book operation where dialogue and de-escalation were used to prevent violence. This was well planned, coordinated, and methodical on the part of police. The operation could serve as a model to other agencies.

One of the things we teach at Crowd Operations Dynamix is that there are many ways in which public unrest can occur. The recent stabbing of a bishop in Sydney Australia highlights another way things can escalate. In this event, an agitated crowd gathered outside the church and demanded police hand over the perpetrator. The perpetrator was kept inside for his protection which resulted in unrest where several people, including police officers, were injured by thrown projectiles. This can happen anywhere. It is incumbent upon law enforcement to be prepared to handle civil unrest in a way that restores order while protecting the public's right protest. https://lnkd.in/eSG2PPVN
