Kansas City is cementing its place as the ultimate BBQ destination with the launch of the world’s first Museum of BBQ at Crown Center! This one-of-a-kind, 4,223 sq ft interactive experience will dive into the elements (meat, fire, wood, smoke, rub, sauce) and the regions (Texas, Memphis, Carolinas, and KC) that make barbecue culture iconic. Jonathan Bender, an Emmy-winning writer and BBQ enthusiast, and chef Alex Pope are spearheading this ambitious project, creating a place where guests can immerse themselves in all that defines BBQ. "We want you to play and learn and come away with an appreciation for the joy and community that is part of barbecue culture,” said Bender. The museum will also feature a curated gift shop offering regional sauces, rubs, and BBQ-themed apparel. Crown Center visitors will be able to enjoy a sneak peek with a playful miniature exhibit planned to open ahead of the 2025 grand opening. New Pop-Up Boutique at Crown Center: Beloved! Crown Center welcomes Beloved!, a women’s pop-up boutique offering hands-on entrepreneurial experience to middle and high school students. Launched by The Nia Project, 36 students manage all aspects of the boutique, from pricing to customer interactions, while participating in an eight-week business workshop. Beloved! features gently used women’s clothing and accessories, and collaborates with 10 local Black entrepreneurs to showcase their products. This experience aims to instill confidence and entrepreneurial skills in the students, addressing community wealth disparities through Black entrepreneurship.
