In summary: ➤ 8090 is working with a large (undisclosed) public company operating in a highly regulated industry. ➤ They are replacing a legacy software system with an AI-based solution. ➤ The processes are very complex due to the nature of the industry and the organization. ➤ The AI solution started at 80% accuracy and then got to 90%. Why are we still taking database maintenance outages in 2024? Calendly is planning what looks like a well managed database outage this weekend. It's a partial outage—bookings remain available—and it's only about 20 minutes. Customer impact from this kind of planned outage is basically zero, but business impact is not. The team gets pulled away from making the product better to work on keeping it running. I'm speculating on the specifics, but I know that for upgrades and migrations DBAs and engineers can spend weeks planning, then work through the night to make sure things go smoothly. AI agents will show us a better way.
