As schools nationwide continue to face declining enrollment, the likelihood of school closures is increasing across communities. A recent report from the The Thomas B. CSBA President Albert Gonzalez toured several Napa Valley Unified School District schools last week to get a firsthand look at some of the district’s various project-based STEM learning opportunities and wellness centers, which serve as one-stop shops for students to check in with staff, connect with community providers and peer support, and receive support with academic, employment, housing, wellness services and independent living skills. In the heart of California’s agricultural region, Coachella Valley USD is tackling one of education’s most persistent challenges: ensuring academic success for migrant students who often face disrupted educational experiences due to their families’ work patterns. These interruptions can lead to significant learning gaps, making it difficult for students to meet grade-level standards. Additionally, many migrant students are English learners, adding another layer of complexity to their educational journey. CVUSD has responded to these challenges with a multifaceted approach, using IXL Math and IXL English language arts to help migrant students fill academic gaps and catch up with their peers. Read more:
